Bluefin

Featured Replies

Have been thinking for a while that I'd like to get my 140CR remapped. My insurance would be an extra £100/yr, which I can live with.

A friend of mine showed me his Bluefin handheld device he used to load his map onto his car, and said they have 20% off at the moment. Thought it was a pretty neat solution. Only thing is that because my Skoda has the new ECU, I'd have to take it into a Superchips dealer where they would "Bluefin enable" the ECU. I understand it's the same with other remappers because of the super-encryption on the new ECUs.

So I have two questions really:

1. Is it possible for a dealer to detect that the ECU has been tampered with (noting that I would always revert the map back to the original for trips to the dealer)?

2. Anyone have any experience of Bluefin or Shark (can't think of others that can use a DIY handheld device)?

I'm only interested in stage 1 remap: 170-180 bhp really to have a bit of fun.

I've had my car enabled for bluefin and had new software uploaded.

1. Yes, to open the ECU they need to remove tamper proof screws by cutting a slot in them to enable them to be removed. Then there are modifications to the circuit board in your ECU. It's very obvious if the dealer cares to check.

2. I have the Bluefin, but have only ever used it to upload the software. I don't bother to flash it back to stock for services as my dealer doesn't care.

Some people hate Superchips with passion, claiming that their tunes are rubbish but it's the old Ford/Holden argument (probably Ford/Vauxhall over there): People love their brands. Personally I had my 2007 VW Jetta superchipped and the same to the Superb and haven't had a problem, but I've got nothing to compare it to.
