New member looking for advice

Featured Replies

Hi all, Just purchased an 04 plate TDI PD 130 elegance estate. First skoda and pleased with the purchase but looking for info on the following:

-cambelt and waterpump change intervals

-broken drivers side electric window

-broken drivers side door speakers

Any advice or direction on these issues would be greatly appreciated.

I believe the cam belt change is every 40,000 miles.

Normally good to change the water pump at the same time, just to be on the safe side.

Electrical problems? Both on the same door?

Could be as simple as a bad earth or loose connection.

Any more than that and I don't know but I'm sure someone will be along with other ideas.

60K miles for the cam belt, but as said, for the sake of an extra 50 quid change the water pump. There could be a problem with the cables in the rubber joint between the door and car, it's a flexible black rubber boot, you'll see where it is as soon as to open the door. Check the fuses also. The switches are prone to failure but not that often. A new one can be sourced fro a scrap yard for ~ 15-20 pounds or on ebay.

EDIT; It could be as high as 80K miles post 2003 models but don't quote me on that.

Is t just the driver's window, or is it the switch set on the driver's door for all the windows?

if its just the drivers window switch, id say its the standard crap in the switch set,

might just need to be cleaned out with some contact cleaner. (edit - Ive had the same thing on my 04 plate Octy)

but if the speakers aint working too, id sat water ingress behind the window seal into the door card causing corrosion

( its a common problem)

a quick check behind the door card will reveal all, not a major issue :-)

Could be a problem here, too alright, esp if its the full switch set not working...

Great to have a few replies already, thanks all! I won't be able to have a crack at it until Saturday, planning on taking the door card off and doing some investigating. The car has 122k, previous owner reckons cambelt was changed at 80k but couldn't confirm waterpump. Wondering if anyone has official figures on the belt? You'd hope the waterpump was done at the same time. Luckily my father is a mechanic so looking to tackle most issues in the next couple of weeks

one thing ive learned during my 18months as a Skoda owner and member on here,

everyone is really willing to help, and offer advice. no matter the problem, someone has been there before!!
