Continental headlights

Featured Replies

Hi I am popping over to France for a couple of days is there a an approved headlight beam deflector or do they need adjusting at all ?

Thanks for the help.

Depends on how much driving at night you'll be doing. For a couple of days you may get away with nothing, but otherwise you'll have to get a stick on beam adjuster.

Heres what the hadbook says:

The low beam of your headlights is set asymmetrically. It illuminates the side of the road on which you are driving to a greater extent.

When driving in countries in which the traffic drives on the other side of the road than in your home country, the asymmetrical low beam may dazzle oncoming drivers. In order to prevent the dazzling of oncoming traffic, it is necessary to stick a

sticker over a certain part of the headlights.

You can purchase headlight stickers from the range of the ŠKODA Original Accessories.

The pdf copy of the hand book on the top of this page says:-

With my Ford Focus the service dept just gave me a print out of a mask to go over the headlamps showing were to apply black masking tape.

I know many new cars can be adjusted by moving the back of the headlamp around.

We have an answer. Popped in to the dealer this morning :-

Change headlight for right-hand and/or left-hand traffic

The asymmetrical dipped beam of the headlights in the

vehicle Citigo remains below the legally prescribed dazzle

values even if the headlight lenses are masked.

Converting the headlights for use in countries where

vehicles drive on the other side of the road is therefore

unnecessary.

What about when you are carrying a 'full' load - is it still legal? Our French cousins can sometimes be sticklers for wanting to see headlight masking as I unfortunately experienced when taking a vehicle abroad that had onboard light direction converters. Had to demenstrate how lights were 'moved' with a switch inside engine light comparment.
