Head Gasket Fabia 1.4mpi 8v

Featured Replies

If possible coolant leak caused by head gasket which is a temac one and which I understand cylinder head bolts were incorrectly torqued during manufacture has anyone tried to re-torque their head bolts to cure this leak. Haynes manual says to torque to 20Nm, then 90 degress, then again 90 degrees, is this correct? Any info would be appreciated.

I was under the impression that if a TEMAC HG was fitted, then there was a lot smaller chance of the Head gasket actually failing because they were of better quality compared to the original head gaskets which were fitted in production.

They dont use stretch bolts, so i guess technically you could, but I wouldnt recommend it. If its got a coolant leak due to a head gasket, i would take the head off and replace the Head gasket.

Dont quote me on it, but i believe someone also recommended using some gasket sealant with the Head gasket when fitting it, while also torquing it to the original values.

Dont forget this is a Chain driven, Push rod engine with Over Head valve, so replacing the head gasket "should" be easier than a Over Head Cam engine as you dont have to worry as much about the timing of the engine.

The bulletin did indeed say that, but it's 10+ years old by now so don't think it will work.

Thanks for the replies, won't try the retorque. Its a 52 plate and looks like it has the temac gasket although top half of the lettering is obscured. At present loosing coolant, after motorway drive yesterday, this morning I undid expansion tank cap and it blew coolant out of the tank which was why I was thinking the HG.
