ecs ultimate dogbone mount kit and boost gauge

Featured Replies

hi all

well decided to bite the bullet and get the ecs dogbone kit and also a turbosmart boost gauge. but my question is with the dogbone kit is there anything i need to be aware of as i have heard from a couple of topics they benefit from setting the torque on them ?? also with the boost gauge from reading a couple of topics including pimp my skoda it is fine to install from the fuel pressure regulator ?? with my brother being a mechanic talking to him about using the fpr he is abit confused as to why you would use rather then the inlet manifold.

thanks all

Don't T into the FPR on a turbo car. If any pipe joins fail, you loose boost reference and run the danger of running the engine lean and melting something. At least with only a connection at each end, and nothing else in the middle, you'll always get a good signal to it.

T into the DV line instead, much safer.

thanks v8 dave as that is what my brother said that its risky coming from the FPR which is true but seems a fair few have done it that way but wanted to be sure unless any one else can state otherwise :)

It'll be fine in the fpr line just make sure all connections are secure, had my gauge plumbed in that way for the last 9 years with no probs

Just because "it'll be reet" doesn't mean you should do it when there's a better way with less inherent risk for no extra work.

well either way will it work off the dv ?? i know that sounds stupid as there is pressure flowing threw there but will it be enough to make the readings correct etc ?? as tbh i dont like the idea of feeding off the FPR i dont want to start a forum argument just want to know the best possible way without running the risk :)

Yep, course it will :)

just typed into youtube how u fit one on a golf 1.8turbo and yep FPR line i know the p means pressure but me and my brother dont understand how that works as the FPR doesn't really have anything to do with boost gauge that is normally air from the inlet to the turbo or a way the boost gauge reads the psi from the turbo mega confusing !!

At the end of the day it's your car so whatever you decide is fine :) "it'll be reet"?....bazaar

will let u know results once all is setup would prefer on the dv aslong as it will show pressure otherwise will try FPR but thanks v8 dave and mr g just the answer of the dogbone and will get on with it all on monday :)

DV and FPR shame same manifold vacuum/pressure source. Doesn't matter where you get the feed from for the boost gauge, it's looking at the same source. The whole matter at point is it's not good practice to induce further potential failure points into something that is considered critical for engine safety.

ah ok i understand fully now plus as said before dont want to start playing with the FPR piping but thanks v8 dave to explaining that gives me a sigh of relief lol!!

I used blank plug on my Inlet manifold for Boost gauge as I have SAI, N112, N249 and PVC breather delete mods so had lot's of spare pipes to come off.

oh and if you have got a Complete ECS dogbone mount you do not need to worry about toque the captive nut. If you have just the bush kit then torque up to approx 15lbs.

The 2 bolts to attach rear mount bracket to subframe should be torqued to 15lbs and then a further 90'

The 2 bolts to attach rear mount bracket to transmission should be torqued to 30bs and then a further 90'

Also the bolt's should be replaced as they are stretch bolts.

Part number if needed.

N10268304 x 2

N90597005 x 1

N10246610 x 1

yeah its the complete kit so its just the stretch bolts that need to be torqued up correctly ?? which the kit comes with new stretch bolts so its just plug and play really so when u say 15 then 90 do u mean finger tight then the 90 ??

p.s really need to look into the delete mods but next thing on list is sorting out the general feel and smoothness of the gearbox so gearbox oil change and a few changes i have seen from pimp my skoda which could work :)

so when u say 15 then 90 do u mean finger tight then the 90 ??

No I mean torque to 15lbs first and then when you hit 15lbs turn the torque wrench round another 90 degrees. This is because they are stretch bolts

Same with the bracket to transmission torque to 30lbs and then turn wrench another 90 degrees

Where do you get finger tight from buddy???

bonus you have full kit and bolt's nice job..

here is my post in techi section on gearbox oil change

sorry i have not much clue how strong 15 or 90 is im guessing pretty strong plus i watched a video of a ecs mechanic fitting one up and he puts it in finger tight which i thought was the smaller number 15 then tightens them up but no idea how much by lol!!

have now got my ecs dogbone unit fitted first impressions worth while mod!!!! the original mount seemed ok but no idea until i can get the old bush off. but once on the road i can see what people mean about the vibration but if i am honest its not as bad as i thought it was going to be. you do need to give it more revs to overcome the vibration and the way the car moves in turn but im sure that will all settle down in due time. the biggest change for me is the way the gearbox feels more precise and much easier to get into gear. so overall mega happy and as said before hopefully settle in and when i can will fit boost gauge :D!!

Give it a few hundred miles and it will settle down a little. Hated my red Powerflex bush but it's much better now 1k miles later.
