2010 Scout Failed Its MOT!

Featured Replies

As per the title!

Not a happy bunny. Put the Scout in for its first MOT and get a call saying it has failed due to the OSR coilspring having fractured. The car has 42k on the clock, at least 80% of journeys are motorway and serviced on the dot.

Not sure if this is an MOT failure, but they noted the NSR differential has an oil leak. This was noted on its last service which was conducted last month at another dealership, but I was told then not to worry about it.

Fortunately, all the above is being replaced under warranty along with the repainting of the underside of the grill, which had rusted.

Glad I got it MOT'd whilst still under warranty!

Cheap recycled steels they use on springs nowadays... All fairly common for them to break.

Not really sure why you are complaining to be honest.

Sounds like great service from the dealer to me.

To get a broken coil spring replaced free on a 3 year old car is very good, with the current state of the roads im seeing more & more broken springs.

Broken springs .... known problem! VW only give 2yr warranty on springs. In my humble, non-expert, opinion it's down to poor design of the lower mounting allowing the end of the spring to seize into the "cup".

Having said that - mine lasted 8 years and were replaced by my local Indy (DSB Autocare - no connection!) for a modest cost.

A damned nuisance but not the end of the world! I don't suppose for a second that VAG are alone with this scenario.

Yup, I've just had to splash on two new rear springs for the Audi.

It's a darn sight more inconvenient when you have to pay for them.

Given the state of the roads springs are now wear and tear items. Not the fault of the car.

The rear diff leaking would be of greater concern to me. If this needs fixing in the future it isn't cheap. A member was recently told that the diff needs to be removed and opened to replace the seals.

I'd be pushing for this to be fixed under warranty too.

Are they repairing and repainting the bonnet or replacing the bonnet completely? Once rust has established itself its very hard to get rid of.

The moral of the story here though...is make sure you get it MOT`d before the warranty expires....dont miss out...

As people know you can get an MOT done up to a month early.

My car will be 3yrs old at the end of May 2014, so it will go in for its MOT at the end of April 2014. That way anything untoward will be picked up and can be done under warranty.

Grr666 - I have no complaints about the dealership which carried out the MOT and referred the items to Skoda as a warranty claim, hacked off with the Skoda dealership which observed the differential leakage during the service and told me to keep and eye on it, but don't worry about it! :wall::@ If I had followed their advice, I would, in all probability, be looking at paying out of my own pockets to have this repaired at some point in the future.

Reference the fractured coilspring and pot holes. The main reason I bought the Scout was due to it being advertised/designed/aimed for (obviously very slight) off roading. I would like to think that Skoda would have fitted suspension up to this task, otherwise I could have saved myself several £K, and bought an SE! :giggle:

Silver - I should have explained it a bit better, the rust is not on the actual bonnet, but the metal part of the grill that you see when you raise the bonnet.

I have now signed up for a 3 year warranty with Warranty WIse.
