How to remove aerial?

Featured Replies

I need to cover my Octavia with suitable plastic car cover to protect from dust and cement from next door's building activities (massive extensions back, side, and front - austerity what austerity). Most covers do not allow for the aerial so it'll have to be removed. Does it just unscrew or is this a dealer visit.

Wife says I worry too much, rain will wash any cement/dust off.

Unscrew, it may need a good tug as some have an anti theft device fitted but It will come off

From my experience on the estate it unscrews so far and then just spins without releasing

I'll be watching this one with baited breath :)

Just unscrew it and fold it down.

Did it go back on again?

Did it go back on again?

No Idea, haven't removed mine.

as above, just unscrew and fold down. Mine wouldnt come off once unscrewed until I gripped it with some pliers and gave it a right good pull but wasnt too bothered as I replaced it with a VW stubby one...

On my estate, it just unscrews.

They unscrew fully then just spin round that's when you need to tug it out for removal. I removed mine for the later Octy stubby aerial but the original does screw back in if needed.

Unscrew until it spins, fold almost flat and tug backwards.

It will go back on easily and will come off easier next time in my experience (I think my first post on this forum was asking a very similar question...)

The best way to remove an aeriel? Just take it through an automated car wash :giggle:

Seriously though, I'd think twice about a car cover. As the wind moves the sheet any dirt or dust already on the car is ground into the paintwork by the sheet often defeating the original purpose.

Take it thru car wash - good idea.

Aerial won't turn more than 10 degrees. It's pretty well stuck (car is 3.5 years old). I take the point about existing cement dust being ground into paintwork, so car cover is off the menu.

Next best thing is to park on street and inform insurer that car no longer parked on driveway over night. I could move car on and off drive each morning/night but street parking is very tight especially as all the builders start at 07.00. There are 3 houses in immediate vicinity having various extensions including one for a home cinema.

Wife is right, let the rain wash the dust away!

Anyway thanks for suggestions.
