Octavia with 300000 miles ex taxi

Featured Replies

Octavia 1.9 tdi ex taxi with 300000 miles to buy or not to buy! And what to look out for went for a test drive works fine apart from a whistling noise when it reaches 2 and half thousand revs many thanks

Unless its up for like £100 I would leave it lol

Like all things would depend on service history, condition, full inspection and of course the price. As long as the body is good anything else can be replaced just depends what you are prepared to do to it should it need it

If its been well maintained and is in good condition for the right price then why not? A lad on our forum picked up a Bora with 240k on the clock recently and he's had no grief with it- 1.9tdi se

The right price would be under the £300 mark though. It should be treated as a runner, and nothing more, imo.

If you can get it for scrap value then it is a win, win. There is a good reason why they get used as taxis, they are capable of serious mileage and when looked after they last well too.

A tdi should pull strongly when the turbo comes in. If it feels underpowered then MAF, turbo, vac pipes etc need to be looked at. Make sure there are no knocks or bangs from the suspension and the steering is not sloppy. Worn seats are easily replaced, damaged trim and dash are not so easy. Service history and condition are the biggest things, although a lot of taxi firms running octy's have their own mechanic/s that do all the servicing so you need to check. Another big factor is the type of taxi work it was doing? Private hire or taxi rank around town is much harder on the car than airport runs up and down the motorway.
