flashing red oil light

Featured Replies

Right guys heres my problem i did a boost leak test on my car yesterday as i had power issues fixed the leak and all went well for a few hours then i got a beep and the oil light was flashing, now i know this is a common problem with the 18t vag engines i just wanted to know could me checking for a boost leak have created this problem or is it most likely my oil pick up in the sump needs cleaned anyway

Oil pickup is very common, try not to drive the car until you can confirm it is something less important. Driving with a clogged pickup can and has lead to terminal engine damage.

Gonna get some oil and drop the sump off this afternoon what oil is it i need i know its 5 30 oil but is it part or fully synthetic i need

Fully synth mate. If its the flashing oil light don't drive it or you could kill the turbo!

How much pressure did you use to do the leak test? How much oil is there when you check the dipstick?

Put 30psi through and car is staying parked up til its fixed the oil on the dipstick is in the middle

Did you block the Y pipe ?

Between the rocker cover and the pcv hockey puck valve near the DV.

if you didn't that can force oil into places it shouldn't go.

And 30 psi sounds a bit much to be honest.

The vw vortex mob recommend about 15 tops

Im running 22psi through the turbo and was told to put a bit more than what the car is running to ensure all leaks were found, no didnt block the pipe didnt see any mention of doing so when reading up

30psi without blocking things off can cause oil seals to pop iirc. Best get someone to look at it.
