Please feel sorry for me

Featured Replies

Has my new Octy since Friday, first long drive today. 3 hours stuck on teh m25 this morning - which is not the bit you need to feel sorry for -

driving home this afternoon, a lovely stone decided to jump up onto my bonnet and take a bit of paint away with it.

Ouch!! Can you get a pen to touch it up? Do these even exist?

A friend picked up their new 3 series a few years ago, turned left out of the dealer and within 20yards had been hit and the car totalled by a bin lorry reversing out of an alley way between 2 buildings and into his nice new estate.

Dealer looked most puzzled when he returned moments after leaving to ask about ordering the same again

yes, should be able to get a touch up pen, with a bit of careful polishing you might be able to pretty much polish the chip out.

Sorry to hear about the slight mishap, not what you want within days of collecting your new pride and joy

As a high mileage driver i do expect stone chips, but I wish it would have taken a bit longer than a few days.

will ask the dealership next time I speak to them.

With a bit of CAREFUL work with T Cut you might blend the paint into the chip, then polish on top to protect. I was advised once to get some touch up paint and then fill the hol with paint ever so carefully with something very fine like a needle, then once it has dried polish it.

Sorry to hear about that, if it makes you feel any better, I also got hit by a stone on the day I picked mine up, thankfully it only hit the windscreen, and right behind the rear view mirror so the chip does not bother me when driving! :'(

It appears they ar resurfacing every road in Lincolnshire, which despite sticking to the 20 mph limit has left a large stone chip on the leading edge of the bonnet :(

I get whacked with stones constantly on the M56 :( Luckily I've not noticed any damage to my paint work yet... when I've saved up a bit of petty cash I might phone around some local detailers asking about protection layers ... but having never had that kind of thing done before I just don't know what sort of cash I'll be looking at :(

Armourfend. Armourfend.co.uk Had it fitted to a sports car, completely eliminates stone chips, but quite expensive to fit. As in several hundred pounds. They make tailor made tough film which fits over the body panels. I made the mistake of just having it half way along the bonnet and wings, but this leaves an unsightly line, best getting the complete panels done, together with door mirrors.

Best having it done sooner rather than later, no point fitting it above the chips - stable door and horse and all that!

Didn't bother - for some reason - on my latest sports car or the Octavia.

You will be able to get a race blue touch up kit from the dealer

If it makes you feel better I cracked the windscreen on my 3 month old vRS, arranged to get it changed and whilst they fitted the new one well enough they chipped the paintwork around the windscreen aperture also overbonded one side of the screen which i tried to sort myself resulting in staining of the headlining with black glue.

Touched up the chips and got the screen company back to cut back the glue and clean up the headlining (which on the vRS is thankfully black anyway) but took the shine off things.

At the end of the day though just a bit of metal and it wont be the last stone that hits it so try not to think about it too much just not worthwhile.

I completely agree, and for me, mine is an 'office' but... it was the first long journey I have done.

looking at my 96k plus 2 year and 9 month old L&K (which VW finance have not bothered picking up yet) I know it will get worse, but.... THREE DAYS

I know how ewe feel, my 88k Berb went back looking like a pepper pot! :giggle:

Sorry to hear that...
