3 loud beeps and red oil can!

Featured Replies

Can anyone offer any advice re the above happened once?

U need oil! Fast!

It would appear a lack of oil pressure or a faulty oil pressure switch/circuit.

Ok the warning light came on going round a heavily banked island last night very close to where I live.. This morning I checked oil level it was below min so I've put in 2 ltrs of oil driven and no warning light or bleeps... Now I'm stuck I had no yellow warning to indicate oil level. However I'm supposed to be using it to drive to Cornwall week after next and I don't know what to do? Get it checked out at garage? Should it have used 2 ltrs of oil over 6k?

Has your engine oil been changed at regular intervals in line with recommended service guidelines? Some engines, that have not had regular oil changes, have been known to suffer from sludge which blocks the pickup pipe in the sump which can then have the effect of starving the engine of oil, causing the red warning symbol and audible bong alert to come on. Serious engine failure could result so please do not ignore this. My advice would be to stop the car and get it checked out by a competent technician.

The only sure fire way to check if the gauze at the entrance of the pipe is sludged up would be to drain the oil and then drop the sump. You would probably be wise to change the part in any case just for peace of mind. Cost of part is about £35 I think.

Hope this helps.

2 Litres in 6k is within skodas tolerances, some engines use oil some dont,my tfsi uses about a litre between services,id just keep a regular check on your oil level. When did you last check the oil level? Has your car done 6k from new & until now you have never checked the oil level?

That's not too bad.

Some Tfsi engines consume more than that, just keep topping it up.

It's just the ultimate worry as oil pressure light plus audible beeps came on else I prob wouldn't be worrying so much .. Am supposed to be going on holiday in it next week

As you had to put over 2l of oil in her any car with an oil level that low would do the same- providing it was capable of going round a corner at speed ;)

It was probably as a result of centrifugal force pushing the oil to one side of the engine leaving the oil pick up feed exposed. You could look at it a different way i.e. as a timely warning to check your oil regularly and top up when it needs some- probably every time you fill up with petrol?

Make sure you get the correct oil too, which might be different depending on which service program your car's on (fixed vs variable)

Ok thanks for all the advice it appears the consensus is to monitor the oil level. I'm just concerned that the engine could go whilst driving it but a mate of mine reckons that from what I've told him this is unlikely'!!

I use a litre for every 1500miles or so. I was told this is normal.

I check once a week and always have oil in the boot. I think Asda are selling it cheap just now for castrol edge.
