My 04 VRS is making a strange pulsing sound when accelerating hard at speeds above 70.

It's hard too describe, but it sounds engine related, like a short pulse of grinding crossed with a low pitched version of a plane's landing gear hitting the runway. It's not high pitched or particularly loud. It repeats during the acceleration every few seconds and doesn't happen when I'm not accelerating.

There's no impact on performance and the revs don't drop or pause

It never happens during acceleration below 70.

Any ideas?

I'm on 175k miles, replacement turbo, original clutch. Car runs very well.

thought you couldn't go above 70 in this country. You must have done this on a non public road surely?

Could be the DMF, mine makes this sort of noise when I put my foot down at lowish revs because of the torque off the remap. Plus 175k for a DMF is a lot of miles after people on here say they are prone to failing all the time

Id give a clutch and DMF a lifespan of about 100k miles.

But of course some get killed in 20k miles, some do 200k miles.
