19 tdi power loss....

Featured Replies

Hi folks; new to what looks like a good forum & good car.

Picked up 2001 116000 mile cayenne orange Octy estate last week after fed up with Volvo V40 28 mpg. Already delighted to see 51.9 o/all out of Octy!

One thing; a couple of times after driving hard, it seems to have lost power-ie as if no turbo or in limp mode-reluctant to reach red line even. Turn off, restart, all ok.

Sound familiar?

Cheers,Andrew.

Hello Andrew - welcome to Briskoda :wavey:

Your problem sounds vaguely familiar - will have a look for you later.

Sounds like the vanes on your variable turbo are choked up with soot and its jamming on full boost then shutting itself down.

Common fault on the Garret VNT17 unit.

Thanks for the welcome Jane; & your thoughts Lummox.

Assume the answer is to drop off the pipes from turbo, good squirt of carb cleaner or similar & blast vanes with airline?

Cheers. :)

You cant get into the vanes sadly, they are in the exhaust side of the turbo and burried inside the housing. This is why the carbon jams them up and why VAG have now switched to KKK rather than Garret turbo units.

Choices are either take it off and get it refurbed or replace it.
