Coming back to vRS...

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I owned my Mk 1 Octy vRS for about 4 years, here she is:

Sold her to the father in law! Big thanks again to forum member billy2981 for helping me with the visual mods :) She's still going strong :D

I then bought a Z4R, needed to scratch that itch:

But always wanted an ///MC, so bought this:

The most amazing car I'll ever own probably. But the time came when I needed my money back so sold the MC in April, a sad day indeed. I wanted something fast, reliable, practical and generally a really nice car. I ended up with a Mazda 6 MPS after months of searching and research:

However, I now need something hatch or estate (preferably hatch) as we are planning on adding a pooch to our family! The MPS being a 4x4 saloon handles impeccably but won't suit our needs with a dog unfortunately. I love the Octy vRS and this is the only car I'm after now, it ticks all the boxes.

I'm ideally looking for something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Skoda-Octavia-VRS-TFSI-Yellow-2006-56-plate-/171053873042?redirect=mobile&nma=true&si=RUHoRmXx7qtoMluK4VsGzLtfXCU=&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 - But being in Bristol I couldn't get there to see it. It's also yellow...! Not the end of the world but would prefer blue, black, red, white etc. I've searched on Autotrader, PH, eBay and the FS section on here, but nothing is grabbing my attention so far...

My MPS is on 44k miles, 2006 06' plate with one previous owner from new, FMSH, 10 months nationwide Mazda warranty remaining (I bought from Lincoln Mazda), new Bridgestone OEM tyres and brakes all round & service in Jan 13', 10 months tax and mot, is in the lower tax bracket as registered before 23/03/2006 (very rare). It's pristine, it's just not going to work for us anymore. The car is unbelievably rapid, the handling is superb and has been lovingly cared for.

If you see any vRS's pop up or know of anyone that wants to sell a pristine motor similar to my car, or would like to discuss a possible swap into the MPS, please do let me know. A forum owned loved and cherished car with low mileage, cruise, parking sensors and BT would be perfect.

Any suggestions on what to look out for and hints/tips etc would be great as it's been a while since I've been in the 'Skoda Scene' :D

Cheers - Woody

Love the car history.

You know your way round cars and obviously do your research, only thing I don't get it why your after a hatch now for use with a dog.

I thought dog = estate!

Saves messing with parcel shelf every time for starters.

Your call, my opinion. :)

My brother in law would of bought your mps 3 weeks ago, he ended up with a silver grey one on an 07 plate with 42k miles and the sat nav for £6.5k which I thought was good

I'd consider a facelift CR DSG estate. Not TSI quick admittedly but the quoted performance figures are a bit off the mark, a DSG equipped hatch using launch control (which the DSG equipped vRS cars have) can break 7 secs 0-60 standard; also an awesome motorway car. CR engine is very refined for a diesel and has a very smooth power delivery, too smooth for some but is definitely deceptively quick. All that and real 50+ mpg capability...very much a do it all car.

Diesels are more common than TSIs, they hold their money better and when I was looking most CR cars had a bit of spec whereas alot of TSI cars were fairly standard.

The estate boot isnt hugely bigger than the hatch but the squared off roof and bigger glass area would make it ideal for a mutt of reasonable size; greatdane on here has a great dane (funnily enough) and "The Thing" fits quite confortably in the boot....testament to its load capabilities.

Id definitely say that factory rear PDC and Bluetooth are probably the best options to look out for, also bear in mind facelift DSG equipped cars come with Maxidot (better trip computer) and a multi function steering wheel as standard; Maxidot an option and MFSW not even available on manual cars.

If you were considering something fairly new then if you could track one down then you wouldnt go wrong with a Blackline. Run out special, CR engine only but was available in hatch and estate and in manual and DSG forms. On top of standard spec came with full leather, black alloys, sat nav + Maxidot, DAB radio and rear sensors at no extra cost. Also came to light that the headunit has a built in BT module so for very little cost and effort possible to get OEM BT running on these cars too. Only issue is they were v popular for obvious reasons and most cars available via dealers tend to fetxh a premium over normal CR cars, but a cracking motor to consider.

Octy + Dog, I personally would go with estate & dog guard, specifically for ease of access, & if the dog is quite small you can have the false floor to carry the legally must haves in the car like warning triangle etc.

Also when the dog gets older & has difficulty jumping up into the car, the estate will be much easier than you having to lift them in.

Be patient , specially with the new vRS released next month, there are likely to be a few turn up in August & beyond, probably at a good price & your preferred colour.

Since when has it been law to carry a warning triangle?  Its not law to carry anything in particular in your car in Britain.

yep.............octy estate with skoda dog guard and a hatch bag to catch all the slobber and hairs of the "thing"

Hey guys, thanks for your responses :)

Well I say ideally a hatch over an estate as 'the wife' is not too keen on the idea of an estate, both because of the physical size of it and she doesn't like the look too much either. As we'll both be driving it, I suppose her opinion does count! Her parents used to have a 54' Mondeo Hatch Ghia X which carried 2 border collies and 5 people so she feels it'll work fine having a hatch.

BUT, I think if the right car with the right mileage and history popped up it wouldn't matter if it was an estate or hatch. I can see the obvious benefits of the lower tailgate and extra litres of storage in the estate. I think I'll wait and see what comes up, just seems estates are rarer and hold a higher premium over the hatches.

Pipsyp, I think really I want to stay clear of DSG and diesel. I think max budget will also be around £5500 so that limits my choice. Thanks for all the advice and tips tho, a good read.

That GREAT Dane is unbelievable! I mean, WOW!!

I think I'll officially pop the MPS up for sale next week on PH and see what happens...Just looked at the new vRS, yummy!
