Best way to remove fine scratches from windscreen?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I want to try sort the windscreen out on my Fabia, its pittered with small marks from grit and stones from the road and also a small patch of fine scratches from the wind deflector on the drivers side wiper where it rubbed on the screen.

how is the best way to remove these?

is it a case of just using the polishing machine and some sfx-1 say or will that be too harsh?

cheers

I must admit I have never tried machine polishing glass. I suppose the same applies as paintwork, but I would imagine glass to be a lot tougher? Might be worth a search on detailing world to see what others have done.

I meant SFX-3 lol goinh thru my kit so I can get stuff Ive run out of as Ive not touched the detailing kit for 2 years since I did my Octy lol, the fabia has never had such treatment.

will give it a go, its not the glass that's scratched tho I don't think, more the laminate on the top?

Yeah, but I still think it is real tough.

The mongrel#s screen is now probably 120,000 miles+ old, and its starting to show with lots of tiny stone chips, which I know won't polish out. Driving into the sun can be a pain. If it gets much worse I'll need to consider options to get a replacement screen.

It won't be the laminate, that's the filling in the sandwich. It must be possible to polish glass though.

Try speaking to a glazier and see what they use for polishing the edges.

You can indeed machine polish glass, just like you would with the bodywork.

As for the chips, there is no cure other than a replacement that I know of.

A well respected detailer in Kent (one of if not the best in the country) regularly polishes the glass - with the same polish as used on the paintwork.

Heavenly?

I might try a dual stage polish with cutting compound and a refining polish on my windscreen then.

That's alright then
