Water running into boot - OEM style solution!

Featured Replies

Ok so like all of us with a octy saloon when you open the boot everything towards the edges gets soaked. Well I have found a seal that is a perfect fit to cover up the gap at the bottom of the screen where the water collects. Best of all it looks like it left the factory like it not a aftermarket fit like the seals from Halfords etc. This fits perfectly, the one part slides under the lip on the glass and the rest seals the gap you normally have!

Now all you have to do is lift the boot quickly and the water runs to the top of the glass and down the channels, nothing in the boot gets wet. What do you think? I'll tell you what the seal is off in a bit :-P

That looks ok. Ideal if it does the job. We need details :-)

I find it is also the water lying on the window that then runs off the sides into the boot....not just from the ledge at the base of the window. Probably doesn't help that I use rain x on the glass.

Need details, where did you get the sealing strip..? I soaked some important paperwork the other week and I don't want a repeat.

Looks OEM fitment - good find - now reveal the secret  :sun:

yes indeed....spill the beans !!!

Here it is gents (and ladies), the seal is directly from a Vauxhall Corsa B 5 door lower rear window seal.

Get down to the local scrappy or even try the dealer for a nice shiny new one. Be interesting to know how much they are?

Or try McDonalds car park on a Friday night, plenty of Corsas to choose from.

Did you have to cut the seal to fit ??

and why is that lampost bent ?

Wow good spot on the lampost :-)

The seal is a direct fit (no sticking or sealant required) you then just have to trim the edges to match the angle of the glass but that's easy to do with a Stanley knife, plus the seal is fractionally to long anyway.

Great looking find Xpower!

How did you discover this?

We have a corsa B in the workshop and I just looked at it and thought....... I wonder???? So I borrowed it to try it and hey presto :-)

So I'm just borrowing it long term :-D

Excellent find.

Off out in the dark to find a Corsa now lol :)

Nice spot.

Now.... can I live with a Vauxhall part on my car, that is the question :)

Yep, those at the side and this at the bottom I think!

I think this will defo be a secondhand buy as a Vauxhall dealer i just phoned lists the part as no longer available. It has now been superceded by a new part that appears to be a long loop of rubber and not a single strip.

Will be interesting to know what some VX dealers are thinking when they get a handful of calls from random people asking about a specific window seal for old corsas :)

Shame a nice new one would be good although I've cleaned mine up with some WD40 and it looks good now.

  • 1 year later...

Defo on my list looks very good, but best of all if it works all the better.
