Stupid smoke

Featured Replies

Hi -

Noticed the Furby was pretty smokey today. I know, it's warm out there, but it really bellowed out a fair cloud. I was a little low in the revs, in 2nd gear, and I did plant it a little, but nowhere near flat-out. Engine was warmed up very nicely but is this really normal?

Car has done 10k, has PD160 air intake + Green Filter, with 4k on the Green filter so far.

Why would it smoke noticably more today then on a day where it was 33 deg C though?

You could always try the much talked about 'pikey mod' to cool the inlet air temp a bit...

I found some fuels smoke more than others.... i.e supermarket fuel = smoke... BP ultimate or Shell = less smoke.....

Same fuel as always - Esso, normal diesel.

Looks like it's gonna have to be pikey'd :( - Already got some bits but not got round to it due to Mrs being in during the week and my work :)

FMIC is starting to look very, very tempting :D

Low gears = more smoke, idle or missed gears especially and pretty much in hot weather, so i would not worry too much, FMIC i'm not going for at the mo but the pikey mod is definately worth considering :orb_phew:

Hi,

I've had the same thing, not sure if it's the heat or not but I have notice brown/black smoke in big quantities at low revs, around 16-1800RPM. Got mine booked into the dealer just in case. Very noticeable though and I have a passat with the same engine which doesn't do the same, weird !! Let you know the outcome.

Andy

You obviously dont drive it hard enough ;)

One thing mine never did was smoke... :D

Hmm - let's just say it does get driven enthusiastically ;) It gets given a blast-out revving treatment at least a few times a week, so that's not it.

It was just bad yesterday, first time I've noticed it in ages really. Engine bay was boiling hot though, so probably going to be venting that soon :)

Mine's been doing alot in this warmer weather even before being Jabba the hut'd from lower revs.

The "heatwave" weekend it was very smokey on a full blast and fuel economy dropped big time. I only got 380 miles out of the tank!  which is about 60-80 miles down on what I usually get.

I've got the arch mod bits just have to find the time to put it on

Perhaps you should check the type of oil you put in :D:thumbup:

Mine didn't either and I didn't have any of these pikey mods, Cupra intakes or FMICs

Perhaps we should start up a company to offer a stop diesels smoking service ;)
