Plans to buy a Superb.

Featured Replies

Hello Briskoda and its members ..

Have an audi B7 quattro today and I'm very happy with, however I think this sport sedan is getting a bit too small now when i have children and dog.. So i started looking at either the 2011 Passat: or superb .. So, you member that have one, Are you satisfied with it?

Thinking of a diesel spin and fairly equipped anyway .. Panoramic roof I can manage without but heated rear seats and pdc is probably what I'm looking for mostly..

Is there something you should watch out for with these cars? Some diseases etc that one should keep an eye on if you buy a skoda? Have had 2x skoda octavia rs earlier that I was happy with .. So this might be my 3rd skoda.

All tips are welcome warmly. What engine do you think is good and affordable? Equipment wise, what you should not miss, etc. ..

Thanks in advance!

Don't buy a Passat end of

Best option is a 170 CR Estate DSG for an overall do everything package

Go visit the local Skoda dealer and act like someone whose not buying and ask questions at the service and parts dept's and see what sort of attitude you receive, this will give you an idea whether it's Skoda dealer good or bad

Drive wise make sure the DSG is smooth, they can be felt changing gear in 1 - 2 - 3 but 4 - 5 - 6 should be seamless, listen for bearing sounds near the battery and behind the engine block infront of the driver position, if you can hear anything it will be a DMF wearing or the Turbo, check the Turbo only makes a light whoosh sound when changing gear, any other noises indicated either a bad Turbo or something around it allowing noise to escape

Have a good test drive, the car will drive nice but be sure the seating position and the seats themselves are for you or you'll be getting back pains

Having had both a Skoda and a VW the Skoda won hands down, better screwed together, better equipment, better longevity, I found both dealer networks local to me to be average to poor but I only used them when I really had to, hth.

It's a 170hp diesel I'm looking at buying. Anything else is not relevant. If dsg or manual makes less difference.

That thing with the turbo, I had not heard of, thanks for the hint.

It is guaranteed to be someone here who mounted child seat, how do you think it is stuck in the car? How is the trunk in size? Have a small dog in the crate and stroller that must fit if you go longer distances. The main reason why I watch the other cars is that it will not fit in my station wagon. The dog is a miniature pinscher. So dog cage is not too great. The easiest perhaps is simply that I go myself and lend a skoda superb. But I hear more than happy your opinions on the tailgate space?

They siren (sounds like a 999 vehicle following you when you acc or decelerate) anywhere between 30k upwards, it's not always the turbo doing it though, most common cause is a leak on the exhaust manifold but it's not easy to see as VAG buried the turbo away, bad ones generally emmit white, blue or black smoke when idling although a dpf fault can cause these symtoms as well,

Boot space is class leading,

You should go DSG it's the nutz tbh, it's not quite as economic as a manual but the benefits outweigh so to speak,

The car will impress you, for a barge it's an extremely agile one.

p.s I just noticed you are from Sweden, a manual would probably suit you best given how much snow there is

All right. The ones I will watch has about 10000km.
If I find someone who has gone less at a good price, I will buy it if it is okay.

What's the difference with dsg to manual on snow?
Other accessories I am looking for is pdc, webasto (diesel heaters) and towing capability.

I will see if I can borrow a 170hp diesel a weekend at a dealer. Might be nice to see how good it is after a weekend of use.

They don't have a lot of control in the snow, iirc they can actually just sit on the snow and spin and go nowhere on light foot, it's the stopping it bit that is really bad though as you seem to lose all traction, auto's aren't any better either, man gives you a bit of clutch to play about with, mind you if you use studs or socks it may not matter anyway,

Dry driving you just can't beat a DSG it's a must have imo, I loved mine, lights camera action....ping ping ping look in the mirror at the sad face who was alongside 10 seconds earlier revving it up, lol.

I used a Saab auto in the snow, the sport over ride worked as well as a Manual and it pulled away easily in second gear, in fact it was the only car in our road to enter and leave easily.

I now has a Superb DSG and wondered whAt it would be like in snow although it is 4wd - will still need the control which I hope the DSG over ride will give though.

I never risked mine in snow tbh but a lot of the Passat guys on forums with DSG's said it was a hairy experience, the manual override could help though, think you have to turn of the TC as well for best results.
