which suspension?

Featured Replies

hi iv had a few different set ups but now i want to go back to stanard or close as due to a back problem.

i started of with 40mm golf 5 springs with shortened shocks this gave a lowering of 25mm ish on the octavia however very hard ride, iv now just fitted coil overs iv in the middle of adjusting them but its still a hard ride for me.

So if any 1 has a better alteritive or no any 1 with stard springs for sale for the vrs 04 onwards let me know.

any liks and prices would be great

Ill be removing my standard vRS shocks and springs in the next week or so if you're interested? Done 80k.. Won't be looking for much for them.

How much and where are U any leaks or bouncing? What U fitting?

Well i'm currently running eibach pros with koni str.t shocks , works well living in London with our oh so smooth roads ( yeah right ). But it's so much better than standard set up and even better than standard shocks with eibach springs. Nice compliant ride , handles like a dream and its running 18" to boot. Not harsh at all. I'm a very happy bunny :bandit:

I can highly reccomend B6 after customizations made by fabric service point - it's quite cheap here in Poland. I've just changed from fabric, before I was riding Koni FSD shocks. Now is much better. Comfort and stability. Using with little lower (-20mm) Skoda springs on 225/40/18 wheels.

Car is Superb combi 125kw.

and links for prices please so lowering 20mm does not take to much of the comfort out, im guessing buying say pi springs at £110 is not as good as buying eibach arnt they just coiled steel ur just paying for the name?? thanks for the help guys

Changing mine for AP coilovers. No idea how much the standard ones are worth... £100 for the lot? In Halifax for collection.

They're still fine. Like I said, done 80k but no knocking or feeling knackered etc.

Bilstein B12 kit is excellent.

It's on the firm side of normal, but oddly the springs don't bounce and give a much more compliant ride over the bumps etc, so it is actually a lot less harsh than the standard octavia setup.

Eibach springs and Koni FSD 4090 dampers here. I like them and they're better than standard - both in comfort, compliance and handling. But I'd probably go Bilstein B12 if I were doing it again (as I might on the next car!)

As said above, a shorter spring doesn't necessarily mean a harsher ride.... if the ride compliance is managed properly by the damper and the spring and damper are well matched.

B6 shocks with standard springs are also a nice set up if you do not wish to lower but want better handling

PM sent fella

I'm running Eibachs and standard shocks: big improvement over stock, yet with almost the same comfort.

Same as me,totally agree mate :)

Eibach are great for comfort but if you want low and comfort (difficult) Billy B14's are really the only way.

I've had Jom, FK, Jamex , KW v1's and all were hard and unforgiving on back roads/bumpy streets.

I couldn't go for low-low because lots of garage entrances in CH are really at an angle. I'm not sure how all the supercars around manage it... :wonder:

B14 (and B16) Bilsteins are very stiffly sprung kits and neither kit will go particularly low so I don't agree with this comment.

H&R are significantly more comfortable and will go much lower than bilstein kits.

Try'd and tested on my car, but we all have our own opinion and view on height and comfort .

I've tried bilstein, hr, kw and eibach coilover kits on various vehicles over the years. Reckon the h&r are the best for comfort but even then are still quite stiff as a road setup. I eventually took them off and replaced with eibach springs and dampers. Whilst the handling was obviously softer I found on a typical bumpy country road I could travel faster and the car felt more in control. On a track it felt really soft. Ride comfort was better than oe (this was on a mk1 leon cupra r). Everyone has there own preference. For track days and smooth roads coilovers are awesome but maybe I'm just getting old these days and prefer my comfort now .

Couldn't agree more. Didn't think my B14s were especially comfortable (or even vaguely :) ) but body control was excellent and handling very good. Had mine down to 2 threads remaining but still weren't really low enough. Not what I'd be buying if I had a back problem. OP I've got standard springs and shocks off my petrol mk2 vrs removed at 65k too.

What hr kit (none adjustable non coil overs) would I need for an 06 TFSi VRS, any links anyone?

Or are the bilstein B12 option the better one to go with for non coilovers.

Some options for you:

Either H&R or Bilstein would certainly be worth considering. All down to personal preference on which one to go for; a combination of what you're looking for in terms of comfort, compliance and handling.
