superb 4x4 estate. new or f/l model

Featured Replies

From your experience - How many Superb II estates have you traded in then??

Let it go Steve, I've no wish to continue spatting with you, I misread yesterdays one and that's why you got the reply you did today, I believe admin has removed our posts thankfully so lets make this the first post or a new found peace.

Good to hear that.

Back on topic, 4x4 Superb diesel estates are not out there in great numbers and seem to be in relatively good demand. You'll see that the majority of used ones start at £18k+ for two year old models. No doubt in a couple of years time face lifted models will demand a premium, but as changes were mostly cosmetic I doubt premium will be more than 10%.

The fact is that if you are ready to buy now, you will not get a good discount on a face lifted model as Skoda is not supporting any offers on the Diesel Estates yet. You might be able to get ~10% off from an online broker, but you are also likely to have to wait 12-16 weeks + for you car.

So if you go for one available now you are going to get a better deal now to the tune of £3K+ and lose about £1.5K in depreciation value in 2-3 years time. The dealers know there is demand for the diesels estates and hence they don't discount them as much as pre face lift petrols or hatchbacks.

Cheers

Steve

Still go in and make like you only have 20k to spend and see what they come back with, you won't know unless you try, make sure it's a good poker face you show as well or they will see through your desire and down yer trollies for you :giggle:

You are in the driving seat with the FL coming out, don't expect to get anything on a FL just yet but new models and FL models do have a loosening effect on askings and it's that that you must keep in mind, the dealer wants all old stock gone asap, Skoda will be helping the dealer in the background so it's not the dealer margin you are effecting (just noticed it's a pre-reg so maybe not on the Skoda assist) all you need to do is show you are buying but only at the right price and with cars at manufacturer levels it becomes a case of don't get left holding the baby as most buyers at that level will want the FL, personally I don't think the FL is offering anything the original didn't already so they are still a sharp buy for those that don't feel the need to press it into the Jones' on the driveway once delivery has happened,

I was offered a 2.0 SE DSG twindoor for around £18k a few weeks ago so work on that and anything 20k - 21k for the added estate (which will hold money finer than a twin will) and maybe Elegance spec, if they say no well at least you tried and you still have the option to buy it anyway at their price, hth.

Another example is I was after a Volvo S80, I found one at £16.5k but it was too rich for me, however it dropped to £15k (still too rich) then £14.6k where I then picked up the phone, we couldn't get together on the px money and the distance was too great to take a chance on, last I saw of it it was up for £14.3k but I'd already bought the Insignia, we were £600 apart when it was £14.6k they then dropped it another £300 (probably hoping I'd want it again) and now it's gone, but whether it sold or went to auction I don't really know, in hindsight as much as I really wanted the S80 I can't help but feel I did the best deal in the end and saved myself £5k in the process between what they offered and what I got for mine and the screens combined, the Insignia is certainly a comfort zone to me and I would know if I felt I'd bought wrong as I'd have that one eye elsewhere feeling still, plus the Insignia is a more modern car as well, maybe in a year when I can snag a D4 S80 I may change again and one of the main things I like about the VX is it has an elevated driving position like the Superb 1 did, my Passat and indeeed the Superb 2 (basically the same car) had me feeling like I was sitting in a go-kart as I'm tall and have to have the seat wound down to the floor, now if only VX would get their finger out and fit a DSG box to their cars it would complete it for me, you should consider a DSG (I know I rave on about it) but it really is one sweet piece of tech imo.

ok guys,

Thanks for all the input from everybody, good food for thought

  • 2 weeks later...

Don't know if you have made you mind up but I paid £23.5k for an 4 month old ex Skoda UK car 2.0tdi 170bhp 4x4 L&k Combi with 7k on the clock and some extra toys.

Personally I'd go for the nearly new if it has all the toys you want. The other thing I'd do is get gap insurance to return to invoice to secure your investment.

I paid £22k for mine, 4500 on the clock, 8 months old.
