Temperature Guage/Sensor Issues

Featured Replies

Could someone scan the haynes pages on troubleshooting temp guage problems or explain which pins I need to measure on the sensor to measure its resistance and how I can test the guage on the dash is working, atm the guage doesnt move at all.

Please disregard this topic, I have now read the stickies :wall:

I think all Felicias are like that (or is it just my two). They never move in normal driving and only start creeping up once you hit traffic in hot weather. You want to try taking it for a good high speed run and then leave it running outside the house (or anywhere else you fancy sitting in a car) for a few minutes and see if it starts moving. If it does I'd just leave it as you know it will move when it gets proper hot.

Oh, OK, I was typing that when you posted this. Please ignore me too!

It doesnt even sit in the middle though? I would still like to know how to test the guage on the dash as this isnt covered in the stickies.

No, mine doesn't move at all in normal conditions. Even in traffic after a run it only gets to about a third of the way up when the fan kicks in, then it goes no further. My last one was exactly the same even though one was a 1.3 and one a 1.6.

^ I had much the same issue for a while earlier this year & instantly cured with replacement thermostat. Now rises to normal running temp relatively quickly after start up. ;)

I will leave the car running tomorrow to rule out thermostat, im guessing it is a bad connection somewhere. Is this a dash out job or can I get at the connections another way?

My truck is diesel engined one. My temp guage didn't move much until I put a new thermostat in. For how much a thermostat costs, I'd pop a new one in and see what change happens. It'll probably save you a heap of time.
