Featured Replies

Hi all,

Can anyone shed any light on this special control module as it appears mine is a bit ill! never had these codes appear on a scan before, but here is todays auto scan results.

There's loads can't be reached.

Is this a genuine VCDS software setup as the version is a little bit out of date compared with my most recent download.  Not sure if that could be a reason.  What cable is it?

It could be that it's looking for controllers that it thinks should be there and are not.  I've seen it in MK1 Fabias where the all wheel drive controller can't be found, this has been down to the Gateway needing a code refresh.

On anything needing coding, especially long coding, I wouldn't want to use anything other than a proper Rosstech cable and software.

Hi ,

It's genuine software and cable, but yes is in need of updating. Just wondered why it was picking up these faults all surrounded by this particular controller as it has been fine in the past.

Cable is USB- HEX-CAN

Most of them all relate to "Special vehicle" ie a Taxi or Police car.

Looks like your car has these checked in the gateway and various other controllers.

What's the cars history?

The car has, to my knowledge never been a police car for sure, as I'm a serving cop and know the tell tale signs of unmarked cars etc I've driven plenty but as for taxi use I can't be 100% its had three private owners so could not rule it out to be fair with it's above average mileage.

To clarify as well the VCDS software and cable is second hand to me as I got it from a good friend who was a VW nut but for some odd reason has defected to another marque of car and he told me he hadn't used it for a while hence the version is behind but I will be checking because if it's fake I will be getting rid as I will not have pirated software in my possession or if it could render my car unusable.

Thanks for the reply BIG Nick investigation required I reckon

Easy way to check the piracy bit: download the latest version from the RossTech site......

.....as far as I know the legit cable should always work. An non-legit one will only work with a specific software version.

Also the legit one will notify you about updates (I think it self updates too, but I can't remember)

Hi all,

Bit of thread revival but I have confirmed my version of VCDS is indeed a copy and fake cable. As explained above I acquired it second hand and would never of noticed the version being out of date so thanks to those who raised concerns about it's authenticity, you may well of saved my car from becoming a very expensive paper weight and me going on trial for murder!!

My "friend" is now aware of the fact I know it was fake and has admitted this to me, don't think we will be sending Christmas cards this year put it that way :-)

As promised all the crap software has been deleted and I purchased the genuine version this morning from Gendan so now I won't feel like a criminal posting my findings when I need help and hope anyone in Cumbria or near by can now view me a trusted person if they need a scan with proper cable and software.

After reading thoroughly the threads on this subject it was never my intention to use a crap version or indeed buy it just to save cash, I now know it just isn't worth it and a car that won't run or work properly is no use to anyone so if anybody is in doubt as to whether to go genuine or cheap crap this is my warning, you get what you pay for, legal use and ownership and I believe respect from other members by going genuine.

If possible could a mod update my location to West Cumbria please on the VCDS owners list ?

Cheers

Steve

Hi all,

Well new cable and software installed and working happy days! Carried out a few checks as you do full auto scan and nowt major popped up, only two faults were headlight washer relay open or short to positive so I need to replace that, does anybody know off hand where this located and what colour etc it is?

Second one was my old favourite being the special vehicle module which lists loads of faults but all link back to this mysterious module. When using the long code helper on 09 central elec I went through the bits and found this module listed and it was checked, its description as someone mentioned in the past is Taxi/Police/Driving school so I unchecked this one and changed the coding as it seemed to have no real function at all.

Now I reckon its time to pay a fiver to DVLA and find out who has owned my motor and what is was used for, if it comes back with a chief constable having owned it i'm not going to be amused :-)

If possible could a mod update my location to West Cumbria please on the VCDS owners list ?

Cheers

Steve
