Skoda fabias?

Featured Replies

Hi guys I've got just over a grand budget and I'm thinking about buying a skoda fabia for my first car I'd like I bit of speed so nothing too slow. Any recommendations?

you'll need a 2.0 petrol Mustang slayer

For 1K you might find a ropey vRS 1.9TDi 130PD, or a 1.9TDi 100PD.

Haha I wish mate!

I think with me being 18 the vrs would be too much on insurance? Yeah which model of the 1.9 would you recommend?

Mine ;) 1.9TDi Elegance. They can be easily Stage 1 remapped to 130HP+, even more with some cheeky mods. Before you do anything power-wise, sort out the handling mods; lower shocks/ springs and a RARB, 16" wheels (steelies are fine) 205/45/16 tyres. Set of shocks/ spring for £233. Keep an eye on the For Sale section if money's tight, plenty of things there. Bits from Polo 9n or 9n3 and Mk 4 Ibiza's are interchangeable.

So the 1.9 tdi elegance? Yeah I'd been looking at them not too much on insurance. Just factory spec how did you find yours? Pros and cons?

On autotrader :p

Mine? it's a 53 plate, now on 117K miles, never broken down once or failed to start since I got it with FSH (dealer) Cam belt changed at ~60K and again by me at just over 100K. Pros, cheap to run, insure, tax, enough space for me and a bale of hay. My shocks and springs etc are on order, finally. Con's dodgy door seals (not on mine but a common problem and an easy fix) one duff lock that I fixed myself and er that's about it. I think I got a good one ;)

Think I might of just found my car then! How did you find it on acceleration with it being a disel?

for 100hp they aren't too bad, a nice slug of torque gives you a nice feeling of power, comfortable on the motorway and enough to be able to change lanes safely.

But you'd recommend giving then the remap for that little extra bit?

If you're only 18 a remap is going to push your insurance right up. I'd suggest getting a couple of years experience under your belt before diving in at the deep end. At the end of the day you said yourself this is your first car, you're best off getting a reliable banger as you're most likely to get any bumps, dents and scrapes in that first year of driving and you'd feel gutted doing that to an immaculate little brum! Do plenty of quotes on different vehicles and then choose the one that is affordable. Then in a couple of years you can get thay vRS ;)
