Climate Control in Elegance

Featured Replies

I got my new Combi 2.0D on Friday but didn't really drive it until today and am seriously disappointed in the aircon.  I am familiar with Climate Control having had it in the last 4 cars over 12 years+.

Outside temperature was 24 degree C and I definitely needed cooling.  I have just finished a 45 minute journey with sweat dripping off my face.  How is everyone else finding it?

I started by setting A/C to On with Auto and 21 degrees.  In my Audi, this would have worked just fine and would have needed no more fiddling - the fans would have been quiet, there would have been little or no draft from vents and the cabin temperature would have been just fine.

In the Octy3, it was sweltering.  I turned the temperature all the way down to minimum (17.5 degrees - much higher than most cars).  I tried turning the fan up, but Auto was already making them operate at max.  I tried using Face Vents or Foot Vents or even Windscreen instead of Auto.  The air flow from all vents was minimal, and not cold.  This is NOT using Eco mode with Eco Aircon.  I found Settings (big button between the two temperature dials) and I have set it to Strong.  I don't know what else to try, other than taking the car to a dealer (which would be a pain this week).

Very unhappy...

I had been planning to start a thread with photos when I have a minute, but this is a distress post on my Mum's PC!  We've just brought the Audi out to my sister who had bought it from the company lease firm - I want my Audi aircon back!

Doesn't sound like its working !

I have noticed that different manufacturers seem to have different degrees ie land rover 18 porsche needs only 20 ok smaller car but !

If I turn porsche to 18 it's freezing lol

Sounds like the aircon / climate is broken. The system should work just like it did on your Audi, as long as the system is on Auto with the ECON function disengaged. If you have the ECON light on, then the A/C is non functional and it will attempt to attain the set temperature using ambient air without aircon. Given the current temperatures this will never happen, so result would be fans on full blast and a hot cabin.

Sounds like you have problem, I've been in ECO mode for the last month and the air con, I find, is much better than in the Octy 2.

Thanks all.   Grrrr.

Do you have a thermometer to hand? That would confirm whether the air coming from the vents is cooled or not.

Auto and also AC buttons should be on. If not the auto will only use the outside air to try and cool the car until the set tempetature

Good thought - can try that when I get home.

I know...

I guess you have a problem if you did all right. But ac should be easily felt at the vent.

I don't know exactly how long you have had the car, but for the first couple of days I was really in impressed with the air con. My kids kept asking me to open the windows.

After a couple if days it seemed to start working fine, so I hope you have the same thing.

Good luck.

Haha - the word "Sauna" did cross my mind earlier. Lots of other words too, but the forum filter would block most of them  :giggle:

As someone has sid your AC seems to have a problem, mine works fine and believe me, in this part of Spain it's really hot in July (30ºC yesterday plus humidity around 70-80%).

28 deg C here today in the south of England, so we're not that far behind!

I also agree, sounds like you got the aircon parts from a 1990 Rapid! Only issue I have noticed, is when in Eco mode, the windscreen mists up when it rains, have to switch back to normal to get full aircon, or zap on the heated front screen for a few secs!

Now I come to think of it the first time I used the air con I was also unimpressed and thought it was faulty, but from then on it's been great, strange ! Try it again tomorrow.

Hmmm.  I will try to remain optimistic...

No better this morning.  One strange thing though - where I put in the first post that the lowest you could set the temperature was 17.5 degrees, well today it goes 17.5, 17.0, 16.5, 16.0, LO.  Not that it makes the slightest difference to the temperature of the air from the vents!  And sorry Dr Zoidberg, I completely forgot to bring the thermometer with me...

Update - Supplying dealer is collecting my car tomorrow and lending me their demonstrator (described as "identical" and I CBAd to ask about the exact spec).

Good luck with getting it fixed quickly. :)

When my Bravo was new I had a similar problem with the AC. On the first "warm" day it worked but on the first "hot" day it didn't. It had come from the factory with the AC low on gas so just needed a top up. Hopefully yours will be similar, but it sounds like you have a decent dealer on the case.

Exactly the same with a Fiesta we bought new!

Obviously aircon isn't part of the PDI checklist, even when it is supplied in a heatwave!  (Last Friday lunchtime, not that I drove it until Saturday).

Mine fine - just a point, if it is low on gas then the gas also acts as a lubricant in the air con compressor so I wouldn't use it until the gas charge has been checked.

In the dealers defence, if the ambient temperature was cool when they did the PDI they would have no way of knowing that the A/C wasn't working, I doubt very much whether checking the gas content of the system is part of the inspection routine. Can you hear the compressor clutch engaging when you switch the air con on? Just to eliminate that possible cause of failure.....
