1.4 8V what oil?

I expect this has been asked before but I did try searching and couldn't easily see an answer.

 

1.4 8V 2001 - what oil? The manual says VW 505 00 but doesn't mention a viscosity.

10W40 is fine.

Agreed. been running 10w40 for over 10000 kilometers.

Thanks. I've got two oils in my garage, both the correct VW spec, 10W40 and 5W40, hence the confusion.
