Front Axel sound while turning

Featured Replies

Hai my skoda octavia 1.8t RS is showing a problem while turning the steering wheel , the dealer is saying that my cars front left side axel is out so i have to change the entire axel shaft , but other dealer is saying that only i need to change the CV boot kit . But my doubt is that , the sound is axels ? will we get sound from axel while turning the steering ?

Ok, I've never driven your car, but it's entirely possible that this is indeed a worn-our constant velocity (CV) joint. Since 2 dealers seem to concur, I'd think it's the LH outer CV joint.

These can be changed independently of the shaft, so you don't need to buy an entire driveshaft. However, changing the rubber boot by itself would achieve pretty much nothing.

The CV boot is just a rubber housing so as Ken says changing that won'tt actually stop any noise, you'd actually need to change the joint itself (assuming that's what the fault actually is, but if 2 dealers say it it could be true)

My Fabia used to make a creaking noise when turning and it turned out to be 2 knackered suspension top mounts and a broken coil spring.

So you're saying that i need to change the entire shaft to stop hearing the sound ? my springs are h&r and its new , and i had changed the struct top mounts also

I was just suggesting something else which could be making a noise.

If you have just fitted new springs and top mounts it won't be those making the noise so it is probably the CV joint as your garages have suggested..

There is an inner CV joint at the inside of the driveshaft/axle with the gearbox, and an outer one at the hub.

You can change either joint without having to change the actual shaft/axle.

this diagram is the simplest one i can find

Gearbox in red -> black CV joint -> purple driveshaft/axles -> black CV joint -> dark blue wheel hub

you can change the black jonits without having to change the purple shaft.
