Removing the chrome ring around the speedo...

Featured Replies

Anyone know how to do it? Mine creaks, and despite two visits to the dealer it's better but still irritating. I reckon if I can get it off I can refit it properly and solve the problem, but I don't want to break anything in the process.

Does anyone know how to do this safely? Ta in advance. :)

I would be tempted to spray some good quality silicone grease around it. Over my many years of creaks on various cars I have always found silicone grease will cure most creaks. Maplin's do a very good one

Dont mention the squeak, rattle or hum words regarding the build quality of the Yeti in this forum as many members will claim that their Yeti has done a billion miles without such problems....but of course 'those who own the car and live in reality' constantly bring up the same problems/ questions time and time again on this forum.

Mine does the same but I have not found a solution to the problem. I know that holding the lens with one hand whilst driving solves the problem.......but it risks the lives of my passengers, and.....well...everyone else on the road for that matter.

I have noticed that it only happens when the interior of the car is at a certain temperature or during certain weather conditions. Therefore, my wife and I describe it as a Yeti Barometer. I think this is a clever (hidden) device that Skoda have kindly introduced onto some peoples Yeti to help us predict the weather............and something that other Yeti owners can only dream of having.

Seriously, if there is a solution to this problem.....I think a lot of closet ( my Yeti does not rattle) people would love to know. It is very annoying.

I can't answer the OP, but my Yeti makes a buzzing found occasionally (like 1500-2000rpm) which I have located as the centre right air vent. The car is due for a service soon, so I'll get it looked at then.

Yep your right there my car has done 38000 miles and no creaks, rattles, squeaks, bongs, bings, thuds, bumps, croaks, groans, moans or anything else for that matter at all.

I'm guessing your car was the Friday afternoon job and knock car so was maybe overlooked on the creak, rattle and roll check but hey ho its all pot luck at the end of the day.

I'm not sure that's entirely fair - my first Yeti was pretty much flawless - the headlight knob did buzz slightly on a particular sort of road surface but only in one position. The new Yeti is similarly very good, just this one thing that needs fixing. I think the forum as a whole is pretty realistic in hailing the Yeti as an excellent vehicle but accepting that there are a few bits which could be improved. Come to think of it the Fabia I had three cars ago was generally excellent, but did at one point develop a buzz - eventually tracked down to the plastic in front of the speedo/rev counter - and fixed simply and painlessly.

Certainly compared to the company-car Avensis I had before my first Yeti both are streets ahead. I don't see this as anything to get upset about nor a reason to make accusatory comments about hypothetical Briskoda members. ;)

I'll have a go at the silicone grease approach - I do like the idea of not removing anything!

Both my Yetis have had rattles, the first was solved when i took my sunglasses out of the holder and put a lens cloth in before replacing them and the second was afflicted until I re-coiled the iPhone charger lead I had chucked into the jumbo box. The only insoluble one is my wife's attatchment to a handbag with a chain handle.

I suggest you re-read the forum. Given the reliabily issues that people (which are quickly swept under the carpet by some members) complain / ask advice on......I think mine was built on a Tuesday.

I have only had two issues....creaky seals.....solved by a kind member on this forum.......and a squeaky chrome lens....not solved, but does make me laugh when I listen to it. Apart from that its been fab. No gearbox failures, no DPF issues....well no nothing really. I think I am lucky compared to some of the problems that others have had......but of course they dont exist they are just lies.... because the Yeti so wonderfully built.

Mine gets this too, very occasionally. Pushing it seems to stop it generally. I get more creaks from the back parcel shelf area (would need to be Mr Tickle to reach that when driving) or down by the handbrake, where the plastic sliding cover is. Might try some silicon spray on that area...

My Fabia was far worse for such sounds. Though my old Scooby never seemed to have any rattles. Maybe the sound of the exhaust drowned them out.

Rattles and creaks occur on all models. Over my company car years I would say Passat's were the best of less noise, Mondeo's seem to creak when cold, but the Toyota Prius (my last company Car) was unbelievable . Everything rattled and creaked from the dashboard, door panels, seat belt fittings, the boot panel cover, but worst of all the boot floor. try a Prius for a day or two, get back in the Yeti and you will feel you are driving a Bentley by comparison. As I said on my earlier post get some silicone grease around the panels and the creaks will go
