Factory Fit Towbar Confusion - Help please!

Featured Replies

I have on order a L&K Yeti with Factory Fit towbar & spare wheel option which I am supposedly due to collect tomorrow.........I have just received a call from the dealer to tell me that the chap who deals with the towbar fitting is off sick & I can collect my car without towbar tomorrow & have it fitted when he returns........or wait & collect at a later date

I feel a little misled & a bit miffed about this....surely a car with a factory-fit towbar arrives at the dealers with everything fitted? Or am I mistaken & the dealer has to do some minor works upon arrival?

I'd also read on another post on this forum that by specifying the factory fit option the vehicle came with uprated cooling fans....is this true?

Any advice would be appreciated......the dealer is currently looking into the reason for my confusion!

I don't believe that the tow bar would have been fitted at the factory, it's always done at the dealers. Mostly, that gets farmed out. You need to make sure that the actual tow bar is a Skoda bar and not something the dealer picked up locally. I'm sure there are threads on this topic else where on the forum and you'll get better advice form a member who has a tow bar. Whatever happens I hope you enjoy the L&K when you get your hands on it.

If the dealer fits the the tow bar how does that differ, in factory terms, from "tow bar preperation" which is also a factory option?

Oh Dear.....Yet more confusion.

Surely the whole point of the latest factory fit option is.......

IT'S FITTED AT THE FACTORY.(or so I thought.)

There's pages and pages of tow bar fitting info going back years.

I hoped my next Yeti could come from the factory with a "Proper" in house system fitted. :(

My understanding was that with the "new" factory fit, the car came complete with the tow bar fitted, plus the basic electrics all fitted, plus the other bits that were previously included with "tow bar prep". The only possible dealer fit additioncould be the UK specific for fridge and battery charging that our European friends don't bother with.

And yes you should have the bigger fans.

Thanks for the replies so far.

The salesman who broke the news of the delay to me was unaware of the uprated fan with factory fit option, so I wanted to be sure on that before they get back to me once they've " looked into the matter".

I will post an update once I get to the bottom of the situation......

I got my L&K in May, ordered with 'factory fit' towbar.  As far as I am aware it was just that - i.e. factory fitted.

The factory fit tow-bar actually arrives in the boot -it's a detachable Westfalia. Everything is fitted and ready for it, just unclip the cover on the bumper, fold down the electrics plug and slot in the neck -takes about 30 seconds.

:giggle:   So if I was you I'd make sure that the towbar is not in the boot already as described above.  If you paid £400 and not the £160 odd for towbar prep you should have it all fitted and ready but totally hidden (even from your dealer - and I know that's not difficult with most of them not having a clue about the options on the cars they sell).

Mmm...... It would appear that the salesperson must have "misread" the vehicle spec screen when searching the unallocated vehicle database....and the dealer has called Skoda UK technical department & the uprated fans are only fitted to vehicles supplied to hot countries & therefore not the UK.

So a tank of fuel & dealer fitted tow bar for price of factory fit as consolation prize.

Still, I'm sure I'll be more than happy upon collection in the morning! :)

Not quite.

As standard the car is fitted with a plain strengthening bar behind the rear bumper, with a one piece rear bumper.

If the factory fit tow bar is ordered this bumper bar is replaced by the Westphalia bar which comes complete with the mounting for the removeable "hook". The car also gets a modified loom fitted and the modified rear bumper.

I wonder whether the car still needs reprogramming?

Past comments from SUK have definately implied that larger fans are fitted to UK models, so confusion appears to reign supreme, as usual!

No reprogramming required - this has already been done at the factory - you get a nice picture of a trailer on the MFD. When you select reverse and a reminder to look behind you as the reverse sensors aren't working!

If its factory fitted it will be there already.

If they havent specced it as per your order rip em a new un.

This tow bar confusion just goes on and on.

The factory fit towbar at £400 is an absolute bargain.

The dealer should have sent you a list of exactly what was ordered from the factory for your vehicle, it should be on that.

If not, then they have cocked up (no suprise there) and should fit you a tow bar to the same spec when the car arrives.

The saga continues!

I went through a similar experience when I bought my Yeti. At that time the factory fit option was not available so I had to order it as a post delivery option, I also specced the towbar prep.

I was also told by the supplying dealer that the towbar was not immediately available and did I want to delay delivery until it was. As I'd already waited 6 months I said NO I WANT IT NOW!

It was fitted 3 weeks later but still had to go back to be recoded as the dealer wasn't aware that it had to be done.

My understanding of "factory fit" is exactly that, fitted at factory during assembly. I would aslo expect the towbar prep to have also been done.

As regards the extra fans, I contacted everyone I could think of at SUK and Skoda CZ to find out if extra cooling was fitted and I couldn't get a definitive answer. I did get some very imaginative replies from some that were obviously personal opinions.......... :wall:

I would have thought by now that the towbar "problem" would have been sorted and accurate information given to all the sales staff by SUK but obviously not.
