Auto gearbox

Featured Replies

Hi,

Have just registered on this site, have recently bought a 2 litre Octavia Auto really pleased with it even though is W reg performs great.

I am wondering whether anyone can give me information on how to check the fluid level and top up the gearbox and whether you have to top up with engine running. Can't find anything in the engine compartment and am hoping you don't have to lift the car to do it.

Welcome to Briskoda. :) The procedure including a diagram is detailed in the Haynes Manual for the Skoda Octavia 1998 - April 2004. The bad news is that after driving the car to warm the transmission slightly, you then need to raise the front and rear of the car and support it on axle stands on level ground before you can proceed further. On safety grounds if nothing else, I would leave the job to a garage. :(

Thank you for that, will contact my local garage and get them to check it.

Information has been very helpful DGW.

Welcome to the forum Clive :)

Welcome.

Hi and welcome aboard.

Welcome aboard.

You also need diagnostic equipment to check the oil level as the gearbox needs to be between 35 - 45 degrees to check the level. If you need to top up you should replace the fill bung and locking cap also.

Remember on this gearbox the differential oil is seperate to the transmission oil so dont get confused which bungs are being removed etc.
