2 Batteries in 5 Months

Featured Replies

I've been looking at my dash for the last week thinking that my dash lights are normally a little bit brighter but as everything was working fine i put it down to ageing eye haha.

Last nite i lost powersteering, main light dim etc. pulled in the drive. Knocked the car off and tried to start. FLAT!!!!

This Battery has only been on the car 4 months.

Before everyone says about the alternator wire, ive already done it. Done that after the 1st battery died. The weird thing is i've never had a bettery light on the car, i assumed it was a LED that had stopped working as the battery was charging (i used to check charging with a voltmeter). Now, all of a sudden the battery's not charging again.

Anyone got any suggestions or should i just look at the alternator as the problem given the wires already been done.

It makes me think that the alternator is over-charging. If you can get the car to an auto electrician, he'll check that for free, as long as he gets the business if you need a new alternator.

New alternator on and exactly the same thing. No charge.

What is the voltage on the DMF wire supposed to be?

Both wires to the alternator changed all the way back up into the loom under the battery.

Still not charging.

Checked fuses?

Yep. Im looking for a relay now.

Its appears after i checked another VRS with a multi meter that at 'ignition on' both wires to the alternator are receiving just over 11 volts on the checked car.  Mine only has that voltage on 1 wire.

Think my problem lies with eith the ECU or a relay.

Hope its not ECU, my car will find itself down the mountain haha.

Also when i tested the other VRS last night with the ignition off, his DMF wire was getting (cycling up to) 400mv, but as soon as the car was started it went straight up to over 11v.  Mine on the other hand only has 400mv all the time (constantly cycling up to 400mv) which leads me to think that something is not letting the car know its started and to start charging.

Feel free to jump in here with suggestions anyone, feels like im talking to myself here  :bandit:

All sorted (touch wood).

Had to renew the d+ blue wire all the way from the alternator to the control unit under the drivers side dash. There was no continuety. New wire all the way around with no joins and all is well.

Good result then.

Haha eventually. Cant believe it didnt go in the common place

Yeah, these things happen.

Sounds like your quite clued up about it anyway so fixed it without any big auto electrician bills.

Yeah Im ok with things haha still needed a Haynes book though to check for pins and plugs etc. The only thing a haynes is good for is their wiring diagrams.
