Clutch Issue when hot :(

Featured Replies

I think it might be new clutch time, but wanted a few thoughts from other octavia drivers. Current clutch and DMF has 45K on it, old flywheel and clutch managed 67K before DMF started rattling. Running standard power, car currently @ 112K.

When cold, 1st thing in the morning clutch bite is in the middle, clutch operates perfectly. I can boot it, car pulls to redline all the way through the gears.

The longer i drive the higher the bite point becomes and the clutch starts to slip at peak torque. Slips more and more the longer (hotter it gets ???) i drive.

My from work drive is 18 mile and at approx. 16 miles, slipping starts, but only on the return journey. (hotter part of the day), mornings are fine, drive to work no slip at all.

Its only happened this past 2 weeks with the weather being hotter.

I have some wet substance around the engine bay cylinder (slave cylinder ?), but thought this was from a leaky CTS, which has been replaced.

Brake fluid level is fine. Changed brake fluid 2 weeks ago and had a new rear caliper last week............ related???, crap/old brake fluid still in clutch lines ???????

Could it be master or slave cylinders or does this sound like a new clutch is needed ? is it worth bleeding the clutch lines ?

Cheers Briskodians

I'm not certain, but this sounds like the early stages of slave cylinder failure.

Is the master cylinder, clutch pedal and slave, engine bay ?

Could be slave cylinder, but I wouldn't expect that to vary much with heat.

Sounds more like to me the pressure plate has gone weak.

Just did a 54 mile round trip to my nans. Car didn't slip the clutch once. Outside temp was 21c.

Pressure plate is FUBAR

I think if the slave cylinder had gone, you would have trouble disengaging the clutch - I suspect the clutch is worn out and will just get worse.

Cheers for all you help.

New clutch time is it, just need to get 2 weekend brakes out the way 1st. Then raise the funds. Luckily got OH car to use for the long journeys.

Just had a thought. The last 2 miles of my journey home from work is stop start traffic, lots of congestion. So that must have an impact. Riding the clutch. This is when it happens all the time, The last few roads before I get home without traffic.

Ease off the gas when it slips (to make it not slip)  - Dont hold it on the clutch, dont ride the clutch, and you should (hopefully) be able to eek out a couple of months to save up !

So it been 3 months nearly and my clutch hasn't slipped once.

The previous owner had the clutch pedal snap and had it welded, but never got the white clip replaced, so it was cabled tied into place. I bought a new white clip and on refitting the clutch pedal had more travel, so i don't think the clutch was fully disengaging. I bled the slave cylinder to.

But............. I still have an issue where the clutch bite point becomes very high and the pedal very light. This happens randomly and does go back to normal sometimes when driving or it will stay like for my hole journey.

Not sure where to start in my diagnosis as its timing is so random ????????? :(
