Key fob or alarm? My first First octavia

Featured Replies

Hi I have just got my hands on a lovely 2001 vRS but i have a couple of problems

number 1

The bloke I brought it off said the key fob needs a new battery ( flip type ) so I replaced the battery but still no luck. The red light flashes so I know the buttons work I then had a look at fuses but all or ok then I removed the door card and had a look at the connections as on one of the threads on hear says to do but all in good condition. I then removed the some dash panels under the stering wheel and found a black box with two plugs on it when I press the remote there is a clicking noise so it's receiving the signal but not opening or closeing the doors. The key works on drivers door fine that works the central locking open and close and put the alarm on (I think as the red led flashes in the door)

number 2

it does not matter what side you move the electric mirror switch to L or R it only moves the passengers mirror

Number 3

When you start the car it beeps at me and says service as I will be servicing it my self so is ther anyway of resetting the service light myself

Number 4

The gear shift seems a bit stiff going left to right but fine foreword and back and does not return to the center if you let go of it (if that makes sense) would I be right in thinking that I would be a spring that has worn or broken

Hope you can help as this is my first skoda and loving it

Thank you

Chris

Oh and one more thing lol can you adjust the clutch peddle height as mine is high (clutch is fine) but the peddle itself is higher than all the other peddles

Chris

1. check the wiring where it comes into the door from the A pillar.

2. as above.

3. Press & hold the trip switch then turn the ignition on. (make sure you do service it using genuine VAG parts, & the correct VW/Quantum oil) Oil pick up strainer on VAG 1.8T's  is notorious for getting gummed up due to lack of & poor servicing.

4. incorrectly set up linkage, check youtube plenty of how to guides on there.

Clutch pedal doesn't sit at the same height as the brake pedal. That is normal.

BTW welcome to Briskoda.

Hi I have done the linkage and all is good now :) but as for the electrical problems on the central locking and door mirrors I am still no closer. All wires are in good condition and no damp or water in door or ruSt. Is there any way of testing to see if there is a currant in the wires from the control box ie the colorers and if positive or negative pics would be a great help

Thank you

Chris

You need to unplug the large connector on the drivers door & check for corroded & broken pins.

This one has me confused. Took door card off check all wires checked all plugs and connectors and they are all in great condition with no signs of corrosion going to electrical test all wires today :(

I think it's the drivers side locking mechanism. When you lock the car with the key all doors lock apart from drivers side unless you turn the key all the way as if you was closing all the windows and when you use the switch inside to lock all the doors the drives side doesn't lock!! Could this be related to the central locking problem on the remote??

Think that is caused by the microswitch failing on the lock mechanism.

I'm fairly sure that's correct.

IIRC it's a bit of pain to replace. Sure there's a guide on here somewhere.
