Remote key fob u/s

Featured Replies

Hi

Been out for a long 400mile drive today. Stopped off at Reading service for 5mins, came out unlocked boot with remote as normal.

In the time it took to walk to the drivers door the alarm siren activate and would not switch off.

Jumped into the car and put the key in the ignition and it started fine. But the alarm continued.

Tried the key fob again and no joy.

I had a spare battery for the key fob, bunged that in and still no joy.

Thought i was stuffed with the alarm going off so drove the car away from other cars so as not to p**s them right off. But after a few more starts of the car the alarm stopped and i contined home as normal.

Key fob still dead once home, and the spare works as it should.

Any thoughts?

Do they just die a death? It was the least used of the two fobs.

Thanks for any advice, car is a 05 mk2 octavia 1.9tdi

Just in case the battery i put in was a dud, i put another new one in.

No light on the remote when you press the buttons.

Will swap the batteries around in the remotes just in case i have a bad batch.

Edit, low and behold the new batteries are dead and the old one in the spare worked fine and the remote seems to work now.

Do they go like that normally or just the heat today that has screwed it?

Cheers
