Fitting aftermarket options: Skoda franchise or independent?

Featured Replies

I'm about to buy an approved used FL TSI VRS estate (manual) in race blue.

I'd like to add some extras:

1. Tinted windows from b pillar back

2. Rear parking sensors

3. Bluetooth module for use with the standard Bolero

Fortunately it already has the maxi dot and Xenon headlights.

Should I ask the main dealer to fit the extras (if they can) or go to an independent? Am I more likely to get rear parking sensors with the graphics on the bolero via the main dealer? Similarly, if they do the bluetooth module is it more likely to have bolero/maxidot compatibility? The tints I'm less concerned about!

Any advice appreciated!

1. For rear tints your only option is to have tinted film applied - replacement glass would cost a fortune.  You should be able to find a window tinter locally via google search

2. dealer fit parking sensors do not integrate into in-car systems so you will just have an audio warning - buy from Ebay and fit yourself or again search for a local installer and compare prices

3. Cant help with that one

I've been told to get a parrot for bluetooth as dont have the maxidot or steering column buttons.....

The car I'm having does have maxidot. No steering wheel buttons but apparently the indicator stalk has a button on the end to control the maxi dot. That said, the Parrot is inevitably the route I'll go down if it all ends up being a lot of hassle.

Film tints are all I'm expecting - perfect as long as they keep the kids out of the sun. They always pull off the sun blinds!

Parking sensors that aren't integrated with the screen I can cope with but it would be nice if they were for completeness. I am not overly fussed about them at all as the estate has pretty reasonable visibility. But I did get the comment 'that's a very long car to park!' from someone.

Thanks guys.

I got the dealer to add bluetooth to my car and they installed a Fiscon Basic Plus. Builds right in to the Bolero interface, works perfectly. I currently don't have buttons on the wheel (though I am also changing that). If i had known they'd be putting in a 3rd part part, I'd probably have just done it myself. The upshot is, they are responsible for keeping it up to date for me, which means I can tackle them for an update to allow my Galaxy S4 phone to stream music to it...

I'm going to get the windows tinted. The film option should be more than enough (as long as it is done properly)

As for aftermarket sensors - To be honest I'd look at dealership if you have the money. It looks tidier and adds resale value to the car.

Is the Fiscon worth the cash then? Any tips of which one to go for?

How will you do that? New wheel or some other method?

I assume that as per the previous comment that even though the main dealer could do it, it would not be the equivalent of the factory fit, with the Bolero display showing the proximity of objects? If this is the case, how would what they could do trump what someone else could do? Why would it be tidier for instance?

the Fiscon does the business. I know plenty of people with the Parrot kit. OK so its an extra screen and controls, but a tidy install and i looks the business and has plenty of features if you spend a bit.

I'm changing the steering wheel and putting in a new highline controller (when I get my act together to do it, its been on the to do list for an age now).

Fair point. Your probably looking for a new bumper or someone skilled at drilling holes.  I was considering the idea of adding front sensors, but if the dealer is gonna go down tha route then no.

So I bought the car. Asked them to do the tints an parking sensors as it'd been nice to hav the tints ASAP in this weather. Pick it up next week. Cannot wait.

I'll see what makes sense regarding either the Fiscon or Parrot further down the line. For the time being I'll use my trusty Belkin Aircast which I can just take from my old car and plug straight into the new one.

A Franchised dealer should be able to get and fit the factory parking sensors, the only reason they wouldn't would be cost.

Even aftermarket sensors can integrate with the factory stereo, Gemini, Laserline and Paser from memory have an interface available.

It would be interesting to know what that figure might be. I'm pretty sure I'm just going to get the audible beeps. Not really a deal breaker for me though but it would have been nice to have the graphics on the Bolero.

The graphics are nothing special but i will say useful....but then so are the audible beeps.!
