Cheap coilovers... Don't do it!

Featured Replies

So my current battle-bus Octy developed a bit of a knock which then got worse.

"Arb bushes" I thought...

When I jacked the car up to have a look I saw this....

So new suspension required then :(

Crikey, peeled the metal!  Lucky you were not travelling fast, what make of coilover is that then?

Pass. They were on when I bought it.. Race lands or something? Cheap eBay crap :)

Under warranty?

Nasty, looks like it's been having a go at cuting your brakeline! :(

bit harsh saying dont get them

They were on the car when you got them :-) so how long have they been used in a car that takes a lot of pounding :-)

Like most car part they will not last for ever rain/rust + good old pot holes = parts go snap hehe

Not really appropriate to say "cheap coilovers - don't get them" when you have not had them installed and can vouch for the age.

However , they look like race lands to me which are known to be crud as there ARB drop link mounting points are fitted as an afterthought to a std shock not really meant for VRS.

And that break could of been far worse to your car buddy..

Me,  I would never touch them or any cheap coilover's just because I am fussy and want the best on my car but other folks are getting good results from the likes of Pro - Sport collies

If I where a user of cheaper coilovers though I'd be keeping an above average eye on them

£200 end user price doesn't leave much room at the production stage for selection of quality durable materials or components

This is why im on the lookout for some OE suspension to put back on.. im not interested in having the car slammed or bone-shattering ride.

The OEM stuff isn't exactly the best spec either tbh

I've had standard vRS springs snap on me (low mileage - 40Kmiles on them)

Thrust bearings too

The standard stuff is pretty horrid on bumpy roads too - the oe spring and dampening rates just don't work

Im stuck between a rock and a hard place at the moment. MOT expires this month - prosports out of stock until end of aug and not much in the for sale section.

I hate cars  :wonder: lol

I know someone breaking a set of std suspension if interested.

I might be interested if they are the right price ;) - given the distance, could arrange to get them to the national meet and i can pick them up from there.

Ta :)

Ok will ask a price for you.

I also have a full set of vRS shocks and springs sat in the garage, not *too* far from Manchester.

I went for H&R monotube's cost me 850 I think from venom motorsports and are the best I've fitted to a car but standard thing of suffering bump steer

Ouch! I have fitted a few 'cheap' set's of coil overs and not had issue's (needs must), but this is an eye opener, material must be to thin or really low quality! was it running a standard anti-roll bar?

I just took my arb off cos I'm too low for it not to be a pain, so no worries for me haha. Keep her below 45 mph and its only sparking on the deck occasionally. Cheap coilies FTW
