How many new Skoda SUVs?!

Featured Replies

Nothing we didn't already know I'm afraid.

The 7 seater is destined for the Chinese market so I doubt we'll see it over here.

Really?

I think the Yeti XL is going to China, but we should get the 7 seat new bigger SUV here.

Hadn't heard the rumours of the Evoque-style Skoda before?

I'm still puzzled by the idea of a Skoda that's an Evoque competitor and isn't the Yeti. It's not like Skoda are going to make a 4x4 that's just 14mm longer, 17mm wider, 5mm lower and £10k more expensive than the Yeti just to be a spot-on match.

The Chinese 7 seater Yeti does not grow by 500 millimeters!!!  150mm at most.  So the 4,7m long car is the new model above the Yeti that is nearly VW Touareg sized.  Though it will be MQB platform based (in other words Golf based) so something like these VW concepts:

The VW Crossblue

The VW Crossblue Coupe

And guess the size of the Crossblue?  4,889mm...  so not far off the 4,700 quoted.  A Škoda version will be smaller than a VW version I'd suspect.  But they will both be MQB based.

You can't see from the photos of the coupe, but I'm guessing that the cross blue will be the 7 seater and the coupe only a 5 seater due to restrictive headroom in the back.

Don't you think the coupe is very much Ewok looking?

Rather more like a Fairy than a Yeti, perhaps?

Blimey - presumably, then, no boot at all if they're trying to fit another row of seats and legroom into 150mm.

Thats usually the case with the 7 seaters of that size - you dont get a big boot with the 6th and 7th seats up. Alhambra/Sharan class is far better for boot space if you envisage all seats needing to be used regularly.

Yes, it's the same in the Quashqui +2.

With the small rear seats folded into place the boot is about 30cm from the tailgate to the seats.

Not that different to most 7 seaters to be fair... Zafira, Galaxy and the mainstream ones still don't have a very big boot.

Ah - good to know, ta. I can't honestly say I've ever looked at such a vehicle in any detail.

I think everybody is going to have to stop using this "based on the Golf" language with the advent of MQB as otherwise nearly every single car in the VW Group will be "based on the Golf"!

Although they think it's going to replace the Superb???!

That sounds unlikely given how well the Superb seems to be selling - I see a lot if them, particularly the estate.

The Superb doesn't actually sell in massive numbers globally, not compared to the Octavia and Fabia anyway:

ŠKODA customer deliveries in the first half of 2013 (in units; +/- per cent on the same period in 2012):

ŠKODA Octavia (181,200; -17.5 %)

ŠKODA Fabia (110,100; -17.6 %)

ŠKODA Superb (51,000; -10.5 %)

ŠKODA Yeti (41,800; -7.3 %)

ŠKODA Roomster (17,300; -15.3 %)

ŠKODA Rapid (38,400; new model)

ŠKODA Citigo (sold only in Europe: 24,900; +349.2 %; new model)

I can see some where the Evoque-rival replacing the Superb rumour has come from as it would be about the same length and is due for launch around the same time as the Superb replacement was due. Still finding that hard to believe but maybe it is true... Superb stepping on the Passat's toes too much?

The Superb is half a metre longer than the Evoque, isn't it? Whereas the Yeti is only 14mm shorter.

Am I really the only person who's noticed that the Yeti and Evoque are virtually the same size? ;)

....but the the Evoque is a yard and a half wider!

17mm, actually. If you mean than the Yeti. 13mm wider than the Superb.

According to Autotrader the Evoque is 2125mm including mirrors and the Yeti is 1956mm including mirrors. So that makes the Evoque about 6.5 inches wider in old money. OK not my exaggerated yard and a half but more than enough to make it too wide for my garage. I personally love the Evoque but it is simply too wide and as a bonus that £15k looks so nice in my bank account.

Hmm - I was going gy the What Car figures. I wonder which (if either) are right! Certainly, though, the Superb is much longer than the Evoque.

With a bit more looking into it I think the What Car figures are probably with-mirrors for the Yeti and without-mirrors for the Evoque - so there is more difference than I thought. Sorry!
