Air con fuse

Featured Replies

Where's the air con fuse in a Fabia please.

Thanks.

Driver's side grey panel (near your right knee when sat down) - remove by prising open with a screwdriver.

According to my Hayne's manual for 2000 to 2006 models, air con fuses are:

F3 - 5A = Diagnostic power supply, air conditioning system.

F12 - 5A = Fresh/recirculated air flap, air conditioning, navigation, telephone, gas discharge headlights.

Haha fuses arent my problem. Out with the multimeter again i go.

Any fault codes?

Whats the high/low pressures in the system?

Any help??

Whats the high/low pressures in the system?

I dont know.  My mate is doing the aircon for me.  He said there's plenty of pressure in there 90 (dont if thats psi or bar).

I'm going to check for faults codes this afternoon.  I didnt realise this would show on a fault code so thanks for that.

There's no click when you push the aircon button or no slight drop in rev's either.

Any help??

It's very usefull.  I didnt have my manual at hand last night as i wasnt at home and needed an answer while at my mates re fuses.

Thanks very much.

Pressure by itself means nothing, for example you could have 5 bar in both high and low lines, but that means the a/c isnt operating.

It would give a fault code for an issue with the pressure switch.

Also worth remembering pressure doesnt equal gas quantity,

I know nothing of how aircon work.  I know that the compressor isnt kicking in so i was going to go down the route of testing the wiring 1st.  Once im satisfied that that is all ok then i'll speak to my mate again.  He did say something about it being hard to test if it wasnt working at all.  Hope that makes sense.

How do you know its not kicking in? By the fact the revs dont drop?

Well, I know mines not 'kicking' in as the fan on the condenser is starting - that could mean a faulty fan but I would still get some cooling through the system even if the fan didnt spin.

It could be the clutch on the compressor but as far as I can see its seems to be all intact & not loose.

Because i cant hear the click.  Ive heard it on every other car i've had but not on this car, plus when on cold my heaters must be blowing 26 degrees, toasty to say the least.

I only started this tread as i needed a qucik answer to a fuse location.

I dont want to pee anyone off by asking lots of questions that, judging by the posts in this section, have already been asked 30 times this week.  I'm quite capable and happy to trundle along under my own steam to get to the bottom of this problem, then if i get stuck i'll have a read about what's already been discussed.  If that doesnt get me the answer i'm looking for then i will ask.  I really appreciate the replies so far though.  Thanks.

Same here - temperature doesnt change at all when the AC button is pressed. Currently, the only thing the AC button does is turn on the orange light within the button!!!

On a side note, I dont really remember hearing my AC 'click' when I switched it on. I noticed a change in engine noise though.

Fair enough, was just going to point out the compressor doesnt have a clutch so you dont normally hear anything clicking in. Might save you making an assumption.

Well thats a help. Thanks mate. Save me time.

Does anyone know if the Fabia Air Con has a suction accumulator drier? They normally need replacing when you fit a new compressor but I cant find any reference to one on a Fabia?

Never mind - found it.. 6Q0820193, top left of condensor when looking from front.

I thought it did have a clutch? Doesnt the drive wheel allows rotate & the compressor engages the clutch when the AC is switched on?

This is taken from the Skoda Workshop manual for Fabia MK1:

If you read all of the text there, and think about it, you'll see that what they are talking about is a one-time-only-use emergency-self-destructing type of clutch - "the rubber elements will shear off".

I guess this is so that if the pump finds itself trying to compress liquid rather than gas, it effectively disconnects itself from the pulley instead of exploding or destroying the aux belt.

Correct, thats a safety feature.

The compressor as with all models now is a clutchless driven compressor and varies load via the wobble plate internally which is controlled via solenoid fed by a duty cycled voltage from the control unit.

oh right - thanks for that.

Rite then, checked the voltage coming down the wires to the connectors and i have 10.4v going to the compressor. I would have thought that would have been enough.

The black 'thing' coming out the compressor doesnt spin so im pretty sure the compressor has totally lost the will to live. Anyone got any other suggestions to make 100% it is the compressor.

Also noticed my rubber block is so loose i can turn it by hand so i now have 3 questions.

1. Does the compressor need to block to cause this.

2. Can this happen with age (mines 10years old) or is it only caused by a blockage.

3. Are they replacable.

Where is the control solenoid please?

I just had my air con regassed, no leaks, I hear a click when I press the A/C button, "clutch" spins constantly (as apparently it should) and have seen the fans kick in also.  However, in the last 3 days since regas, it's only worked twice.  Once when the garage had it and once when the wife drove it!!  I took the drivers panel off and could see 3 relays but even with the Hayne's manual and a couple of hours on the net, I could find absolutely no information that helped.  Yes I did see one relay layout plan on this forum but none of them mentioned the A/C.

An intermittent problem like that sounds electrical and you're the best bet I've had in days now :)
