Bad Wobble at Idle

Featured Replies

My car with a BLT engine will sometimes wobble at idle. Upping the revs to say 1200 stops it.

This is seemingly common, but as yet I have not read a solution so would like to try and piece it all together somehow.

Every engine/gearbox mount is new (from the dealer) so that can be ruled out and the only modification is one of them smaller washer things to stop the ‘BLT stutter’.

Other than this extremely annoying issue everything is perfect and there are no faults logged.

First question I guess is has anybody fixed it?

Second is, if your car is doing this have you also fitted that washer thing to make one of the pipes smaller?

DMF on it's way out?

DMF is about 5,000 miles old and genuine. It also did it before it was swapped.

I have actually just found an article on another forum (searching for the engine rather than Fabia) and there is a strong indication this is a timing issue and a slight adjustment is needed.

You measure a setting in VACGOM and adjust accordingly. Going to do some more reading on it, but the cambelt was changed when I bought the car so maybe it wasnt setup perfectly. The dealer did it..... so it wouldn't surprise me.

On the camshaft sprocket there are 3 nuts that can be loosened and the timing "tweaked".

Could be worth a shot as it is quite common for the timing to be different after a belt change and not adjusted properly.

Everything does seem to point way.

It doesn't do it all the time though... could it still be timing or would that be 100% of the time (at them revs of course)?

Good luck! Still haven't found the fault on mine :D

Mine does this noticeably up until 1200RPM.  I wondered if the engine mounts needed replacing, in that at circa idle speed, they resonate causing the bad wobble.

Funny, the other day I was sitting in a queue of traffic on a flyover. As I sat there in my PD100 I noticed a distinct wobble.....quite subtle but definitely noticeable.

I thought it was the structure of the flyover shaking as traffic went over the other side.....perhaps not! Interestingly it happened while the car was on the up slope of the flyover (so pointing up hill). I don't know if that was a factor, but It has not done it again since.

Going to try get VC on it one night this week. If its the timing then its probably whats causing 90% of peoples.

Good luck... I have the same problem - Nearly had all my engine replaced now trying to find the issue!

Do you find the wobble is alot harsher when facing uphill?

Sonix yours still playing up? Thought it got sorted.

So did i... They replace a rear engine mount as when on a hill if you pulled the engine forward it stopped. The engine mount worked for a while then its happening again.

I suspect that it were still shaking however the engine mount held it and now has become weak...

I wonder if this is a number of factors combining to cause this.

Pointing up hill, hot weather making the engine mount rubbers soft, along with a timing or a DMF issue.

Does it go away after a drive at a constant speed for 10-15??

Min lol

compared my BLT engine sound to a friend of mine with another BLT.  Mine engine seemed to be vibrating/wobbling at a slower rate to his.....

In my case I drove off the flyover and parked it a mile down the road. I let it idle before I left it and the wobble was completely gone.

Measured timing last night and it was at 0

Nobody seems to run 0, its more like +1.0 or -1.0

Will adjust it tonight and see how that does.

Another thing I noticed was injector 4 was not working as well (by the ever so slightest amount) and that can cause it too, so I'm going to get some Forte injector cleaner.

I'm VERY confident its one of these 2 things; mainly the timing.

I have had to try fix the issue.

DMF

Tandem Pump

Injectors all removed and sent off for checking (All came back fine)

Engine mounts

EGR

Alternator clutch pully

Wiring Loom

Really? Wow - I wouldn't mind meeting up with you to see if you have the same problem before you try fix yours bud. Where are you in WY?

Just changed the timing to all sorts.

I was able to make it worse, but not better.

So that kind of rules out timing.

Next up are the injectors, but there is some debate around the values for these and I need to do more research.

One website says anything above +- 0.5 on block 13 suggests an injector issue and others that it can be up to +- 2.6

On both mine and sonix's car we see one injector up at about 1.5 and the rest lower; closer to 0.

Ah no way! Really thought that might of cured the issue!

Like I said the Tandem pump did wonders for mine but still shakes on hills :/

We could really do with some Injector experts to reply to the thread... Nice car btw bud and nice re-map! Good to meet you.

*Bump* - Can anyone else help here or give suggestions?
