Life of parts on a PD100

Featured Replies

As some may know, I have a lowly PD100 thats I've decided has to last me the distance, whatever that may be.

As some may also know, Jason is emptying his car to fit a vRS engine. So up for grabs is basically a full engine plus all the bubbins that come with it. In fact here is his ebay ad.

I'm having the wheels off him, but should I grab anything else? He'll only end up storing them or throwing them away, so should I take anything as replacements for when mine come to the end of their life? In fact, how many miles is the life of some of these parts?

In particular, I'm thinking the MAF and suspension. It may be OEM stuff, but it'll work well.

What should I buy now that'll keep my Fabia on the road cheaply for longer?

Well, the OEM TDI suspension you can have for next to nothing, mate. Its never going to see life on my car again, and they're only about 35k miles old. ;)

The MAF I think is different, so you can have that too if you want. (I mean different to PD100 due to wider pipe bore)

Can you fit a PD100 engine & gearbox in your boot. ;)

Generally, the cars will go on forever though. One reason I'm fitting a new pd130 engine into my car is for engine longevity / life, further extending it in my opinion. All this depends on how hard I push it tuning wise though. ;)

You just want it to go faster Jason

I'll bring you back about 4 cases of booze and we'll sort the rest out cash. Can't have you enjoying yourself too much can we?

And yes I technically could fit a PD100 engine in the boot, I did in my Clio with plenty of room to spare, though that was an XR2 engine I guess. Hmm, no need for Eibach springs now, just get a heavy engine in the boot. (No I can't take it :p)

Well, the suspension is entirely OEM - front dampersd with springs still well attached, and rear dampers with rear springs which are obviously not attached, as they're not attached when they're on the car. :);)

Well, the engine is for sale, in all seriousness. No intention of keeping it all. Last resort will be a 99p start, no reserve, ebay auction. :(

Richard if you get the other engine you could always be the first twin engined fabia!! (diesel that is) :P

Twin derv turbo  - 2CV style 4x4, they did one of those things, problem being the power would be a little more on the Furby :)

@Jason - disappointed you're not gonna try and do this kinda thing yourself :D :D

Depends how many miles you're aiming to cover "in the distance" but I suspect clutch, MAF and turbo will probably need replacing around the 100k mark if they haven't been replaced by then already. Suspension life I guess is down to how and where you drive the car, but mine had covered about 60k before it needed replacing....

The distance is going to be about 15 years when its not worth patching up te rust, or 350k, whichever comes first.
