michelin tyre cracking on greenline, not good

Featured Replies

my dealer is very good, being very helpful over daughter monte, and wifes new citigo, as well as tickets to goodwood the other week, so would not want to damage a good relationship over cost couple of half worn tyres

going to see if I contact Dunlop first I think

from a retail law point of view you should really be talking to the dealer first, just because you have a problem doesn't mean that you have to go in guns blazing and fall out with them. Problems with cars do happen, remember it's not them who built it and these sort of issues are an every day thing for them.

Agreed - your contract is with the dealer. If they say "sorry, no - try the tyre place down the road", then at least you have their agreement to take it elsewhere.   Tyres are dated anyway, so they should show they are just over a year old by your statement.

got to go and see dealer this weekend to sort some paperwork for swmbo's new citigo

so will let them have a look then and see what they say

I have Bridgestone Turanza's and each one of them has cracking inbetween the tread blocks in several areas. The car and tyres have done 12,000 miles yet the car is just over 3 years old. It's just been inspected for it's MOT and the tyres were carefully inspected and passed ok. The cracks were not deemed important or dangerous and not even an advisory issued. As has been said by someone else, it depends how deep the cracks are. Mine are fairly deep in places but are still not considered dangerous, no pressure is lost and they seem fine. Local tyre company said they are currently ok too. But usual rules apply, keep and eye on them. It's not an uncommon thing to happen and many of us have cracks that we don't even notice. However, due to the tremendous road noise Turanza's transmit to the inside of the car, I'm going to ditch them later this year for Continentals which are a better and quieter all round tyre in my view.

only ever seen this on other set of tyres in the past, and they were right at the end of their life,

fronts as I say not to worried as near end of life, rears though I am surprised to see the cracks in them, have TPM so should get warning of any slow pressure drops in between normal checks

  • 3 weeks later...

Any up-dates on how you got on?

re,

TPMS

it is really for showing a sudden drop or change of pressure, and useful with Run Flat tyres.

Regular tyre pressure checks are still required as tyre pressure can drop.

& also the TPMS needs checked from time to time, Press the button & reset/check.

had closer look and not to worried about the cracks, must have been the angle / light I first saw them made them appear worse

I am keeping a close eye on them to make sure they are not getting worse, I forgot to speak to dealer about them when out there the other week but keeping that as an option if required

Just for the record, since this hasn't been said anywhere in this thread...what's the manufacturing date of the tyres?  There should be a a marking that says e,g, "DOT XXXsomethingXXX  4511", where 4511 means manufactured in week 45 in year 2011. Not that I suspect a new car to be fitted with old tyres, but you never know... Last time I bought a set of new tyres at my tyre shop they tried to sell me tyres that were close to 3 years old :(

I have Good year efficient grip on the Fiat 500.

Replaced all four earlier this year via Blackcircles. Huge improvement in

comfort over the factory fit Bridgestones, also the grip is brilliant

and cabin noise reduced. All in all a very good tyre.

I did order Yokohama bluearth for it but they only had 3 in stock

so they called me and after a chat with them I got the Good years

for the same price. (Mainly because I had just bought 4 tyres for my

van earlier the same week from them)

On the van I do have the Yokohama Bluearth tyres with the XL rating.

Again, they have made a huge difference to the noise levels, and grip is

very good wet or dry. I would have had them fitted to the Fiat were it not for

the stock issues. Mainly it was the price/ratings ratio that caught my eye.

I think they are very good value for money. I would buy either tyre again tbh.

I had some on my Clio they are rather prone to cracking mine failed its MOT they had plenty of tread left but were shot on the insides

Sorry again very OTT,

I like the look of the A1. rather smart.

What version is it?

I agree with George proberly run underinflated im on Michelin p sport 3 fantastic tyre best ive had, also when you get new ones put a good tyre treatment after every wash that helps, but I would get onto Michelin to have a look, cheers.

Well it looks like I will be getting 4 new corners with a little help from continental due to cracking

I agree, PS3s are very good. I have them on the black car.

i will see about contacting Dunlop and see what they say, on holiday shortly so will do it on return

Update on my tyres , continental told me take them too NTS I did they confirmed the tyres are defective on several issues , the cracking which is on both sides ( inside and outside treads) also inward bowing on side wall ( we know it joins in one place but several bows or dents found on each tyre) also went for a second opinion vw dealers and they said " they're fine " WTF! So went for 3 rd and final opinion a highly regarded mot / garage and tyre centre which confirmed the findings of NTS. So am in the process of getting and inspection done by continental at 3rd opinion site , also I've been told to go for Michelin for high mileage or Bridgestones also both these tyres are cheaper and less noise db than contis

I've got the lines on the side wall where the text is and been told they're fine. Line goes towards the centre of the wheel hub.

Always had it with the continental premium contacts.

So I should contact continental?
