Starting after crash

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 2002 1.2 ibiza, which is basically the same as a fabia, it has had a small bump none of the air bags were deployed, I have replaced all the damaged panels but it refuses to start.

The air bag light is on and the EPC light is on but it goes out when the engine is turning over. Does something need activating with VCDS.

I have not been able to get it scanned due to it being immobile.

Sounds like your fuel shutoff switch has triggered - it is there on fuel injected cars to stop high pressure fuel being sprayed out if the engine bay gets damaged in a crash and the fuel pump remains powered up. Not sure where it will be mounted on your car, the ones I have seen before are about a 1 inch cube with a round black 'button' on the top that you can push down to reset it and turn on the fuel pump again. On an old metro it was mounted on the bulkhead in the engine bay but I'm sure I've read somewhere that they can be mounted in the centre console area inside the car.

There is a crash signal on the ECU potentially still - Well, I say ECU, I am referring to the airbag ECU.  What does a scan with VCDS show up?  It sounds like whatever it is would be found using VCDS.

Thanks for the replies, I cant find a fuel cut off switch, and I have looked all over the net for advice I will have to try and get someone to do a full scan for me.

I am surprised about the lack of information, as surely plenty of cars have had bumps.

Not many are returned to the road though.  My only experience was when I fitted a replacement power steering pump, and a crash fault was logged on that.  Thankfully VCDS cleared the code and the pump started working again.  I never even realised the PAS pumps logged crashes....
