Information about Horner's Rochdale

Hello,

I am looking at a Skoda for sale in Preston and the seller has lost the service book. I have contacted Skoda for them to run the registration and see if they have any service history but the only one they have is the car was brought in for a recall recently for a software update and coilpacks.

They were able to tell be the car was originally sold from Horner's Rochdale and I would like to contact them to see if they have any service records for the car, but it seems that Horner's Rochdale possibly went into administration a good few years ago and I'm having trouble finding a contact number.

If anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

Horners was i think a mitsubishi dealer on queensway rochdale which is now pentagon vauxhall.

Before it was mitsubishi it was rover/mg.

If they went into Administration then I very much doubt that any records have been kept.

The Administrator is only required to keep the barest minimum of financial records, and things like computers are wiped clean before being sold. Paperwork normally ends up being shredded.

I'd give up on that one, I'm afraid.

Horners went bust a long time ago, and quite suddenly.  Given the disarray they were in, and the fact that none of the branches ever seemed to share information, there' little chance of you getting any information from whatever entity may be left - there are a few other company's trading under the Horners name in the motoring sector, but proclaim themselves unconnected.

 

My own experience of a similar situation - the dealer didn't have the service book for my car when purchased, however, as one of their approved vehicles, I assumed this could be confirmed......my mistake!

 

My own view is this: a car with a full service history can give a buyer a false sense of security - My experience with an Audi A4 taught me that, repeatedly and with vengeance. Long may it rot in automotive hell or be dropping parts all over someone else's driveway. :@  

 

What matters is the day-to-day care of the vehicle,not just a stamp in a book every 12 months.  My own car, in the 12 months i've owned it, has been serviced twice, had a new exhaust, tyres rotated, MOT'd, washed regularly and generally looked after, even though it's just a tool to me.

 

Alternatively, are YOU happy with the car?  In which case, nothing else matters.

Thanks for the advice guys. Gwilo - that's exactly what I was thinking. I've bought a car before with no service history for a great price, and it didn't matter because I did a full service, timing belt, water pump etc as soon as I bought it. So I knew it was in good nick from there on.

 

I've just to hear back from the car dealer who is selling the new car - he says he's getting his mechanic to take a look over it on Monday and check the condition of the timing belt and other aspects of the car. It's got 64k on it, so if there is no record of the TB and WP being done then it leaves me room to barter and get the work done myself. The guy said he took the car in for the coilpack recall and software update there which I was able to verify by phoning Skoda UK. It's just a shame that there is no service history, it really affects the re-sale value when selling a car on.
