sudden misting up

Featured Replies

Hi

My vrs has a habit of suddenly misting up.

I saw a thread for one with climate control misting up.

However mine just has standard aircon.

I just had the aircon recharged last week.

Today the front screen was clear then misted up totally within a couple of minutes.

This happened when I was not using the aircon.

The outside temp was about 18.

The normal demister would not clear the screen, the aircon cleared the screen within a few seconds.

It then misted up again within about 10 mins.

I juggled with the temp settings and opening windows and it settled down.

Any idea on the cause and solutions

Thanks

Dave

Sounds like you have your air on recirculate the condensation from people in the car will mist up the windows -air con dries out the air so stops this -if you want your windows clear without using aircon, try switching the air to come in from outside the car.

It could also be water in the car from leaking door seals. I had this couple of years age when I left my octy at the long stay car park at Glasgow airport. When rain water got in and when I eventually started the engine and the cab heated up, the moisture on the inside of the screen misted up like a flash. It took age to clear too.

Is your rear wash working?

If your aircon is now working there will be condensation on the condenser. This water must be free to drain away. As are there drips of water on the ground under the car after using the aircon for a while?

If your drain is blocked it may cause condensation. Also run the heating flat out for a while to dry the ducts out.

Hi I have  not checked for any moisture underneath the car after I have run the aircon.

There is no water in the car anywhere so I don't think its the seals.

I Tried using the recirculate button but that had not effect they only way the screen would clear is with the aircon.

The rear wash wipe does not work would that have any effect

Where does the pipework for that work.

Ok. Check your wheel well. Is it full of water/screen wash?

Leave your aircon on all the time. Why would you not ?

There obviously is moisture in the car! Check all the usual places for moisture collecting (wheel well & foot wells especially)

If it's just your front screen... then perhaps a leak into your blowers (AC will slowly dry that up) - If rear wash isn't working... gosh - I guess you keep squirting it until you find a damp patch!

Sounds daft but I don't think I have a rear wash only a wipe. There is no where for screen wash to come out it sounds like there is a pump working but that's it.

There is a just a rear wiper is this normal for a 2006 mk2.

Not  the norm IMHO. Fluid comes out through jets which squirt through  a cover on the rotational pivot of the wiper arm. Fluid stops coming out when the pipe comes apart(spare wheel well gets wet) or the jets get blocked up. Many threads on the subject.
