Pancake pipe or not?

Featured Replies

Got all the stuff together to go stage 2, and thinking of changing the pancake pipe to something like the Neuspeed/Awesome type, is it really worth it?

I've read all the stuff on their web site and also on Awesomes about improved flow etc, however I have read on here about them fouling on full lock.

Cars lowered on H&R springs and 8x18's with 225/40/18 tyres

Any proven benefits, not just opinions.

I should know better, 50 years of age and still modding cars!

What intercooler do you have?

Its best to do away with the pancake pipe and have a single pass fmic like the toyo sports from eBay!

This will save a huge pressure drop over the forge style coolers, maybe 5-6psi or more in boost losses!

It works out cheaper than a forge as well!

It will hit the anti roll bar drop link so use stock one

I had one and they foul the antiroll bar drop link so don't bother. It did feel slightly better than std for the short while before drop link carved a hole in it. Although my car was very low.

Also forge fmic are no issue with pressure drop with my mapped motor?

Thanks for that guys, I'll probably give it a miss then if it means spending £100 to wear a hole in it!

Intercooler's a brand new Forge item, I've been using their kit for years plus they're only 1.5 miles away, and they did such a good deal (even though I'm putting it on a card) cos I'm a regular customer it wasn't worth buying second hand

Likewise I have had the forge fmic for 4 years now and still working as it should. I paid well under price through this website to there company. The fit is superb and quality is as you expect with forge.

Not too impressed personally with forge

Yes its well put together and designed its just the final finish for me!

Every pipe kit i've ever got from them comes with nice aluminium filling / swarf inside them! So they all need cleaned out before installation. Bit shoddy really

Just promise you'll get R-Tech to map it once the hardware is sorted!

It's going back to the same people who did my stage 1 remap, because if you decide to go stage 2 at a later date it's F.O.C, however it will be going on Interpro's RR just to make sure the fuelling etc is correct before it melts a piston (hangover from my old Cosworth owning days!).

Any specific reason why I should go to R-Tech?

Wow interpro thats a blast from the past.

Still big in the Fast Ford world (cossies, RS tubo's etc), but seems most of their work comes from the motorsport arena, Rallying, circuit roundy roundy stuff with aftermarket ecu's/throttle bodies, all steel engines etc.

I used Mech Motorsport in Cheltenham to map my rally car (Omex 500 ecu) which made just shy of 160bhp and 120lbft of torque from a 1362cc Suzuki Swift GTI, however Dave is not really into turbo cars with standard ecu's, only if they have total aftermarket management.
