To change or not to change.

Featured Replies

Hi

I've had my blackline from new since Oct last year, its a great car and excellent value. A couple of niggles for me - I've had a couple of issues with the DSG - in fact it required a replacement gearbox from Skoda and now it feels delayed  when changing gear; its currently in with Mitchells.

While there I drove the new estate VRS. What a lovely place to be inside. Really good standard options and lovely to drive.

I've asked for financial details, and this time if I do trade I'd go for a Petrol Manual (I think). I do 10 miles each way to work and I'd like the performance benefit of the VRS in petrol form.

I'm quite torn, as its likely to cost me more, and my current VRS was such a bargain. but I think about the future DSG costs if it goes again outside of warranty and the chance the have the fastest VRS.

Estate is avilable now with hatchback likely Dec. My current car is a hatch. I know its such a personal decision, anyones thoughts will be appreciated. Am I thinking straight or leading with my heart here? Also estate or wait for hatchback?

cheers

Are they saying h/b cannot be ordered til dec?

Dealer told me yesterday there is an issue manufacturing the spoiler for the hatch, so Hatch can be ordered now but wont be delivered until at least december

they say there are issues with attaching the spoiler?! on the hatchback so its delayed.

Wait for the hatch and go for a bold colour :) but also ur blackline is a very nice car!

The rear spoiler is horrid on the new vrs, looks cheap imo.

Do you need an estate car? If not, wait for the hatch and get it in the only colour to have IMO race blue!!

The most common colour u mean,oh look there's a new vrs opps sorry it's just a standard Octavia!

Point taken, but its personal choice at end of the day.

I looked into changing my Jan 13 Blackline DSG estate, not particularly seriously but interested what sort of deal my dealer could do for me.

Problem I found is that the 0% finance deal has hammered dealer margins considerably so my dealer whilst he offered a pretty tidy trade-in value on my car (owes roughly what its worth but has burnt my 2.5k deposit - equity from my previous trade in with a smidge of cash) but could not (or was not prepared to) offer any discount on the car.

Accordingly I was faced with having to dip my hand in my pocket considerably and still have to pay more per month than I do currently. As much as I like the new vRS its not worth a cash outlay and more expense per month.

If youre prepared to throw more money at it then fair shout but otherwise think youll probably be in for a disappointment as the deals currently appear nothing like the VAT free Blackline deal; and in fairness that was only as strong as it was on the basis of 2k free equipment and 20% off the already fairly reasonable list price, on a v soon to be replaced model.

pipsyp you summed it up perfectly, this is exactly what I found when the dealer gave me figures. decent price for mine (but my original deposit used), but little movement on the price of a new mk3 so would have cost as you say. I think we got such a good deal on the blackline and spec. I'm happy with the car (apart from current DSG issues), but I think the next one will be a manual petrol VRS. though I think I will keep hold of this one for a few years yet.

My thoughts exactly.....the BL is such a good car im almost enclined to keep it long term and buy it at the end of the PCP for my wife to use.....less than 9k for a 3.5 year old low mileage 20k car isnt bad value after all :-)

Either that or ill look to change in a while when Skoda see sense (more than likely after having sold very few because people see the new car as quite poor value for money) and like you i would be buying a TSi manual hatch if I bought another vRS.

Its interesting....SUK are trying to be clever with the 0 percent deal but in my mind they are doing themselves over as the VAT offer has set a precedence as myself like others are loath to pay 25k for a nice spec vRS.
