A couple of questions about rear bumpers

Featured Replies

1) Will a FL rear bumper (estate) fit a pre-FL estate?

I think the answer is yes, but does it need modifying at all? I've searched but can't find.

2) Will it look odd on a Pre-FL due to the FL having colour coded rub strips?

The FL rear bumper will fit with no mods. I enquired about mine a while back and was told its ok.

Thanks Stormchaser.

Have you done it yet?

Any thoughts on what it looks like on a pre-FL? I can't decide and can't find a pre-FL one in the right condition/colour/price.

Will a FL front bumper fit as well?

Or are the fog lights a different shape?

Seen someone selling a front & rear set which I think are the right colour.

Hi

No still deciding on it because I think just having a FL rear would look odd?

Then you'd have to colour code the door strips as well. The front FL bumper won't fit without modification to the sides of the bumper as it sweeps upwards and then you would have to fit a FL front grille too as there would be a curved gap if you left the pre FL grille on.

TBH it's too much faffing about. I would personally look for pre FL vrs bumpers if I was going that route.

Thanks again.

I didn't think a FL front & rear would look too bad without colour coding the rub strips, but just the rear might look odd.

Think I'll follow your advice and keep looking for a pre-FL rear to keep things simple.

I saw a pic thread somewhere maybe on one of the octy websites where a guy modified a FL front bumber and put it on a preFL

needed a bit of tweaking and bits cut off and other bits filled under the lights where the FL is not as sharp an angle under the FL Lights

Cant find it now, but it had step by step pics

Yeah agree I saw it too but couldn't find it :(

Would be interested in seeing it if you can find it. Might also be of use / interest to other members, but I think I'm going to look at just a pre-FL rear bumper now and stick with that as I can't really afford to go messing around with reflectors, trim and other mods to make it fit.

If anyone sees a rear bumper off a pre-FL estate in silver (paint code 9102) in good condition, please let me know...

Thanks.

I've got a race blue vrs pre fl rear bumper with parking sensor holes and all the associated wiring that I keep meaning to get fitted but don't have the time.

It could do with being painted too really but if your after a silver one it won't matter?

Drop me a pm if you are interested

There is only one thing IMO that let's the pre-FL Octy down and that is the black plastic inserts on the bumpers and rubbing strips on the doors, especially on a lighter coloured car.

The FL looks so much better for having them painted.

Here is the thread you were after. The FL front bumper does need modifying to fit around the pre-FL's headlights...

Thanks for the offer, but I'm going to stick with sourcing a standard pre-FL bumpe without parking sensorsr.

My parking sensors don't have brackets/collars and I don't really want to fit them (I'm guessing yours has the collars as I believe all pre-FL cars had them) so the holes in your bumper would be too big for my sensors.

Thanks for the link. I couldn't find it last night.

I can live with the black rub strips on my silver estate, but do agree that the FL looks better with colour coded trim.

Skospares in Poole are breaking a MK2 Est in Silver :)

Thanks.

Not heard of them before but they have two listed as breaking so we'll see what turns up.
