You can use kufatec looms mate. They are about £60 iirc. Its a big job to do the full conversion. To be legal/pass mot you need self leveling system and headlight washers. Hope this helps mate

Nice one buddy I will be doing the full conversion in stages I have a good mot bloke :)

Do you have a link to the looms ?

I could make them myself but I need to source the plugs

I did this conversion on mine. The plugs on the headlamps can be unclipped and swapped over, so rather than modify the wiring on the car, or buying the Kufatec looms, I modified the wiring harness from inside the halogen lamp to suit the xenons.

You need to be aware that the halogen leveling motor is different to the xenon version in both fitting and wiring too. The halogen has three wires and the xenon four.

I was lazy and just bought the kufatec loom - you do lose the xenon when you go to main beam

I just didnt use main beam

And auto levelling and headlight washers are not required

Do you have pictures of diagrams of what you did ? That seems an Easyer option :)

I don't know the specifics but when you switch to main beam you lose the xenon dipped beam

You can sort it though it involves running a cable from the main beam stalk to the light switch to right of steering wheel but i couldnt be bothered lol

im very tempted with the lazy option but still unsre if i could source the parts elsewhere lol

No, sorry, just looked at the two looms, figured out which wire did what and created a hybrid of the two.

Are you using the OEM ballasts and ignitors or aftermarket ones?

The dipped beam goes off with the standard headlamps because the H4 bulb is a twin filament bulb and I assume would get too hot with both of them on for main beam. I modified the wiring when I did the same conversion on my Bora to and made it the same as a MkIV Golf. You need to run a wire from the back of the headlight switch down to the fuse box to one of the yellow/green wires so that dip stays on with main beam.

It's all oem ballasts starters lamps :)

I'm tempted to buy the looms as opposed to chopping away at the socket to make them work as It would be better .

Then when I've finished my other mods I could sort out the main beam if it becomes a nuisance

Do you know if there's a thread of how to make to main beam work ?

Just need a wiring diagram for the headlight switch for a MkIV Golf, that's how I worked out the main beam when I did the Bora and it was the same for the Octy.

Or alternatively, just grab a 12V relay, use the main beam as a feed, grab a dedicated fused 12V live feed for the relay and a DECENT ground, and feed the switched out back to dipped beam. That's the safest way to do it, and less likely to cook stuff (apart from lenses).

A good ground feed is pretty important. Many people who complain of crappy headlights have a poor earth.

Now that's a good idea ... Earth isn't an issue as I have changed the earth for 0 gauge to the chassis and also all the alternator cables are 0 gauge aswell ...

I shall look further into that when I fit the units
