CRANKCASE EMISSIONS SYSTEMS

Featured Replies

Has anyone taken their engine's oil separator to bits or managed to clean it up? Engine is a petrol 16V 1.4 BBY, I've removed it and tried washing it using "carb" cleaner but there is still quite a lot of light brown (ash?) deposits. I'm just a bit concerned that this unit might be aggravating this engine's oil consumption and really asking if anyone has replaced their one - what do they cost - I've been on the Hengst site and they show no details of these items. It looks like the "end" could get prised of - but after about 11 years and 92.5K miles would it go/stay back on as these parts will not have been designed for servicing.

Anyone?  Why do I seem to always pick boring topics, surely someone out there has found where their one is?

I've thought about cleaning out the one on our 1.2 azq engine, but not got round to it yet. I don't think it's the same anyway, it's a circular 'cyclone' type.  Couldn't see anything similar on google-images of your engine code.

Got any photos of yours?

My only suggestion is get one off a scrap car, and try the dismantling/cleaning/remantling operation on that one.

Edit: I imagine dealer price would be whince-worthy, but you never know, worth a phone call.

Did on my AUB engine once........then left it for a further 3yrs then fitted a new one.....about £30ish from the dealer for the part I think.............the oil separator does need replacing every so often................

Thanks for your replies, I do reckon that a new one will hurt a bit as it has a motor built into it, but instead of thinking about, I really need to get on to the local VW parts department and get one ordered in along with a pair of seals - just in case. I just thought I would ask to see if anyone had considered replacing their one first.

A long time ago, I used to clean my Ford's one every year - well they were very basic just really a steel box with baffles and a shut off plunger.
