Cruise Control

Featured Replies

Just spoke to my dealer about cruise control. I tseems that if they were to fit the part it would invalidate the warranty on any parts that may be affected by it... anyone else heard this?

However, if something *did* go wrong with any parts affected by the cruise, you can argue that they made a pig's ear of fitting the cruise control... :D

I can't see how they can say that, assuming they are fitting standard Skoda parts -- they will not need to alter anything apart from maybe a couple of codes in the management system. But they will be fitting parts designed & made by Skoda - to fit cruise control - only difference is that they are doing it - not the factory.

Yes you are taking it from standard --- but using genuine parts & labour --- shouldn't effect it.Sound's like they don't want to do it, and are trying to put you off.

Come to think of it, they said that it was a VAG part, not exclusively Skoda. perhaps they aren't aware of the skoda part.

If they aren't, what would be the best way to educate them ...?

:D

If you look at a lot of your trim, you'll probably find it has VAG markings on it rather than Skoda - I know the speaker connecters do, as they're standard VAG ones across the company. A lot of the switches are the same, so you'll probably find that when Skoda do have it as a factory fit option, it'll look rather like the one your dealer would fit...

Rob.

the bloody engine has a vag part code... does that haveno warranty either? (well mine doesnt)

:D

I have sent a mail to Skoda UK to see what their official position is... will wait and see. I'll try the dealer again when I'm a little closer to having the funds available.

Cheers all

Etka Shows 2 Part numbers for the indicator stalk for vehicles with cruise control :

1.8L0953513J01C -- date code 09/00 -- an Audi Part

2.3U0953513D01C -- date code 01/03 -- an VW Part

So far as I know -- as long as your car is a drive-by wire model, rather than the old cable style -- it's just a case of replacing the stalk and re-coding the control unit to allow for cruise control.

Can't see how any of this could invalidate the warranty -- may be one for LadyLoki(Nicky) @ Skoda customer care.

my vRS is a 51 plate, december. Would that be drive by wire?

thx K

Yep and cruise fits very nicely thank you very much :D

Anyone know if its possible to retro fit the cruise control onto a Fabia? (its available as a factory option)

I assume it would be as straightforward as on the Octy.

Thanks Quinten, my German is not too good but like you say it certainly seems possible.

Will have to ask my Skoda dealer. :)

theres no aftermarket kit for the fabia nor will there be it took me 4 hrs to do one as a project for skoda development (maybee could have taken alot less time but we dealers have to do it by the book putting wires into multi blocks rather than just cutting into wires)

(is big K available for hire?) [/b]

maybee if the price is right :D

All,

I thought you may be interested in Skoda's officical line regarding the cruise control retro fit...

Thank you for your email regarding cruise control.

I can confirm that Skoda UK do not recommend this modification to the

vehicle. The modification will not invalidate your vehicle warranty,

however should any defect occur as a result of the fitting of cruise

control, relating to direct or indirect components, this would not be

covered under warranty.

I trust this clarifies the situation however should you require further

assistance please do not hesitate to contact me. I shall be happy to assist

you.

Cheers,

Keoghan

The modification will not invalidate your vehicle warranty

and

Now something tells me this is completely *******s.

I think it's saying that your warranty will stand unless a fault is related to the cruise control.

But then I also believe in the Tooth Fairy...

Rob.

Reminds me of a certain Dutch opera singer.

Leaving after a football match he left the underground car park and ran over a lady. Sadly, she was killed in the accident. He claimed that he braked in time but blamed his cruise control getting stuck and pushing him towards the victim. Don't suppose that's covered by warranty...

Assuming that you are now 'J-Operational' ;) and you are in front of your PC and not doing some on-road testing :) - Do you know if there are any other parts needed to fit cruise ? I'm thinking about buying the Audi stalk (for my 01 Octavia 4x4) and getting it fitted when I can afford it ?

That defeatist attitude is not what I would expect from you,

big k!:D

It must be possible...

It is possible, he just said so... just takes 4 hours of labour if you bring it to K. I suspect any other dealer will do it whilst waiting for the tea to strengthen ;)

Sorry for the delay Rob -- just got in,having difficulty in eating my tea - don't know why - might be somethin to do with the stupid grin on my face

I can only comment for Audi -- only part required is stalk for most cars -- sometimes(the new A4) you have to replace a convinience control unit - but that's only because of the cambus wiring,.Apart from that it's a quick recode to the ECU - and bob's your uncle.

Never done it to a Skoda - but seeing they use the Audi part & an Audi engine -- should'nt be too much of a pain.

Now where's that mirror - need to see if the grin's gone yet
