From his description ,over the phone,it sounds like the clutch slave cylinder.

He's got a Chevrolet Spark as a loan car.

I could hear his Wife ,in the background,singing,"Drove my Chevy to the Levee".

My 110 CR 2WD had a new clutch fitted just before I took delivery, at 78,000 miles. Never towed - no tow bar!
